Boeing to Highlight 787 Dreamliner, 777-200LR Worldliner and KC-767A Tanker Transport Aircraft at Paris Air Show 2005

CHICAGO, June 3, 2005 – The world’s longest-range passenger jet, the most advanced and capable tanker aircraft, and the aviation industry’s best-selling new airplane will be among the products featured by The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] at this year’s Paris Air Show, beginning June 13 at Le Bourget airfield outside Paris.

“Boeing is entering the air show with tremendous momentum,” said Tod Hullin, Boeing senior vice president, Communications. “This is a company that’s on the move. Our financial performance has been strong, and the operating engine of the company is running on all cylinders,” he said. “The market recovery in the commercial airplane business is taking hold, and orders for Boeing airplanes are up significantly. At the same time, program performance across our defense and space businesses has been excellent as we add to our industry-leading backlog.”

Hullin issued a reminder that Boeing does not artificially store up commercial orders to be announced at air shows. “Our customers determine the time and place for order announcements, and we support their decisions,” he said.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner will be showcased in a dedicated exhibit space adjacent to the static aircraft displays, which feature the Boeing 777-200LR (long range), 747-400 Freighter and the new KC-767A tanker aircraft. The 777-200LR, which will be capable of providing direct, non-stop service between cities as far as 17,446 km apart when it enters service in 2006, is currently scheduled to arrive at Le Bourget on Friday, June 10 at about 0830. The KC-767A for the Italian Air Force will arrive later in the day at around 1700. Accredited media are invited to coordinate with the show staff regarding photographing the aircrafts’ arrivals.

Boeing’s schedule begins on Monday, June 13, with briefings by the President and CEO of Boeing Integrated Defense Systems Jim Albaugh at 1300, followed by 787 Dreamliner Vice President and General Manager Mike Bair at 1330. Alan Mulally, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, will conduct a briefing on Tuesday, June 14, at 1300. These executive briefings will take place in the Salon Press Centre. Connexion by Boeing President Laurette Koellner also will attend to discuss the first year of in-flight connectivity service for commercial airlines and their passengers.

In addition to the 777-200LR Worldliner, 747-400 Freighter and the Italian KC-767A Tanker, several Boeing-built military products are scheduled to be on display, including the C-17 Globemaster III, F-15E Strike Eagle, AH-64D Apache Longbow, and the SLAM-ER and Harpoon missiles. The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, flown by Boeing F/A-18 Chief Test Pilot Ricardo Traven, will take part in the daily flying display.

Accredited journalists are invited to the Boeing Press Chalet (A406-7), directly opposite the main Boeing chalet, throughout the week. Boeing will hold a series of briefings on key programs and issues. Each day, media should check the briefing schedule at the Boeing Press Chalet, Boeing Exhibit and the Salon Press Centre for updates.

The leaders of Boeing Rotorcraft Systems will provide updates on current programs – AH-64D Apache Longbow, CH-47F/MH-47G Chinook, and CV/MV-22 Osprey – as well as new technology initiatives, including the Unmanned Little Bird demonstration project, the Joint Heavy Lift initiative and other unmanned rotorcraft activities. Presenters: Mike Tkach, vice president, Rotorcraft Systems; Al Winn, vice president, Apache Programs; and John Dougherty, director, Chinook Programs.

1200 Precision Engagement: Boeing Style – onboard KC-767A Tanker

John Lockard, vice president and general manager, Boeing Naval Systems, will speak on precision engagement, including engagement cycle, enduring needs and survivability. Near-term capabilities and long-term goals, along with Boeing’s system-of-systems approach will be highlighted.

1300 Jim Albaugh – Integrated Defense Systems – Salon Press Centre, Rm. 5

Jim Albaugh, president and CEO of Boeing Integrated Defense Systems, will explain the success of IDS’s aerospace leadership through execution of current programs and leveraging systems integration and platform expertise.

1330 787 Dreamliner and More – Salon Press Centre, Rm. 2

Mike Bair, vice president and general manager of the 787 Dreamliner program, will provide updates on the most successful new airplane in aviation history.

Tuesday, June 14

0900 Future Combat Systems: Transforming the 21st Century Battlefield – Boeing Press Chalet

Roger Krone will provide an update on the largest program in the history of the United States Army. Conceived to incorporate simultaneous development of 18 new platforms and the network that connects them, Future Combat Systems promises to fundamentally alter the way the Army and joint forces operate.

1000 Boeing KC-767A Tanker Program Overview – on board KC-767A Tanker

George Muellner, vice president and general manager, Boeing Air Force Systems, will present a briefing on the Boeing KC-767A Tanker program from inside the No. 1 Italian Air Force KC-767A. Boeing is considered the world leader in tanker design and integration. Muellner will discuss the refueling flexibility of the KC-767A aircraft, world-class partnerships, mission flexibility (passengers, combi, etc.), the world tanker market overview, and the latest milestones from the flight-test program.

1300 Alan Mulally – Boeing Commercial Airplanes – Salon Press Centre, Auditorium

Alan Mulally, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, will explain the strategy supporting the company’s unsurpassed commercial airplanes and services and Boeing’s position as the preferred commercial aviation company.

1300 Exploring the Integrated Battlespace – onboard KC-767A Tanker

George Muellner will provide a detailed overview of Boeing’s role as the enabler of the Integrated Battlespace, implementing a strategy of embedding Common Strategic Architecture in all IBS elements to achieve interoperability. Utilizing a “best of industry” approach, Boeing is providing integrated solutions today, and leading the transformation to Network-Centric operations – securing the right information, to the right people, at the right time, and in the right format.

1530 The KC-767A Italian Tanker: A Shared Journey – onboard KC-767A Tanker

Come hear the perspectives of the Italian Air Force, Italian aerospace industry, and The Boeing Company on the state of aerial refueling technology and the advances made to that technology with the KC-767A. Presenters: Col. Stefano Fort, Commander, 14th Wing, Italian Air Force; Agostino Melani, CEO, Aeronavali; and Jim O’Neill, vice president, Boeing Tanker Program.

The ISS executive will discuss international partner contributions to the station, future assembly flights, and test bed technologies and concepts in which Boeing is partnering with NASA to support lunar and Mars exploration. Representing its partnership, Northrop Grumman and Boeing Space Exploration executives will discuss an accelerated CEV schedule, using the vehicle as an ISS crew or cargo vehicle, and opportunities for international cooperation.

Ok... I am not a economic expert, but ? since Boeing is getting all of these orders this year, wouldn't that help our trade deficit ? and would that be a good indicator that our economy is doing well ?

The diameter of those 777 engines is the same diameter as the fuselage of the 737, and the read horizontal stabilizers is also the same wing length as the 737.
The 777 is only slightly smaller than the 747 with out the iconic " 747 Hump ".

Paris Air Show, 2005 - Exclusive Photographs, Coverage


The Paris Air Show (Salon International de l'Aéronautique et de l'Espace, Paris-Le Bourget) is an international trade fair for the aerospace business. It is held at Le Bourget airport near Paris, France every odd year, alternating with the Farnborough International Exhibition and Flying Display. The next show will be held 13th June–19th June 2005.

The Paris Air Show is a commercial air show, organised by the French aerospace industry's body the Groupement des Industries Françaises Aéronautiques et Spatiales (GIFAS) whose main purpose is to demonstrate military and civilian aircraft to potential customers. It is one of the most prestigious in the world.
