Officials say they have no way to disinfect books

If you're scheduled for surgery in New Brunswick, Canada, bring your own Bible if you need a source of comfort – one hospital has removed copies of the Good Book from patients' bedside tables in order to control infection.

"We have disinfection processes to disinfect other surfaces, but we don't have anything to disinfect books," Jane Stafford, a spokeswoman for the River Valley Health Authority, which operates the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, explained to Canada's CBC News

Oh! Canada. You're more likely to get some deadly disease in the operating room than from a Bible.

Healthcare in Canada is "free", but Christianity will put you in jail.

What a Lie!!!

These liars know full well that uinless their hospital rooms are moldy books would be bacteriostatic.

This is some creative anti-religionist work.

"We have disinfection processes to disinfect other surfaces, but we don't have anything to disinfect books,"

If this is indeed the case, shouldn't books have been taken out long ago? This is just another lame excuse by some politically correct leftie to get rid of any reminder of religion.

I guess this means all those two year old Time and Newsweek magazines will be removed from the waiting rooms and doctors offices also. I won't hold my breath.

Actually, this makes total sense. I don't want to handle something germ infested right before going into surgery. I wouldn't even handle my own at that point.

" I don't want to handle something germ infested right before going into surgery."

Fair enough. But it's really more about after the surgery, with all that time to recover. Who doesn't read a book or magazines while in the hospital?

It's a sham ruling designed to keep patients away from the Bible.

___________

What a crock.

Call me when they prohibit you from taking your own Bible. Even if the patient forgets, they can always have one of their visitors bring one for them.

Nice try at being a victim, though.

Actually, it goes beyond the Bible. They have also removed magazines and phone books. There are hand wash stations at all entrances into the hospital and on each ward. Bibles are provided upon request ... the patients take them home with them. Patients can also bring their own.

How do I know this? I work there.

No proof of any serious threat to health has been brought forward. Many patients express gratitude for the Bibles. See: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=350903&in_page_id=1770

I think the ban would probably include Bibles from sources other than the Gideon Society, if such were offered.

The Gideons call the contamination accusation ridiculous and unfounded. Besides, people wear their eyeglasses, they sneeze and cough and just generally are bacterially messy.

Name me the hospital with an infection record so outstanding that they've eliminated all infectious agents. Could you speak a little louder, please?
