A man is recovering from burns after lighting a cigarette in a portable outhouse in Monongalia County, West Virginia, causing the outhouse to explode.

The incident occurred Tuesday morning in Blacksville, West Virginia.

The man's name and condition aren't being released, but emergency officials say he wasn't severely hurt and even drove himself to a clinic.

A spokeswoman for Monongalia Emergency Medical Services said the explosion was caused because there was a build-up of methane gases inside the outhouse.

She said the methane didn't "take too kindly" to the lit cigarette.

Nothing like a cigarette after sex or a good dump.

Only constipated people should be allowed to smoke.

Nothing like a cigarette after sex or a good dump.

Except when the dump gets homesick and asks the cigarette to send it back to where it came from....

There once was a man named Clyde
Who fell into an outhouse and died.
It seems that his brother
Fell into another,
And now they're "in-turd" side by side!

Amoco Oil drilled a very deep exploration hole in eastern Iowa back in the 1970s, but found nothing. The story goes that the local farmer placed an outhouse over the hole, having no better use for it...
The rest of the story cannot be repeated on a family page like this one.

A friend just e-mailed me this:

ASSOCIATED PRESS

June 3, 2005 | MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- A man who says he was severely burned when a portable toilet exploded after he sat down and lit a cigarette is suing a general contractor and a coal company, accusing them of negligence.

John Jenkins, 53, and his wife, Ramona Jenkins, 35, of Brave, Pa., filed the suite Tuesday in county circuit court seeking $10 million in damages from Chisler Inc. and Eastern Associated Coal Corp.

The lawsuit claims Jenkins' face, neck, arms, torso and legs were severely burned last July after the cigarette ignited methane gas leaking from a pipe underneath the toilet unit.

"When I struck the lighter, the whole thing just detonated -- the whole top blew off," said Jenkins, a methane power plant operator with North West Fuels Development Inc. "I can't tell you if it blew me out the door or if I
jumped out."

Eastern Associated owns the Blacksville property where the explosion occurred. Jenkins alleges that heavy equipment from Chisler Inc. ran over the pipelines before the explosion, causing the methane gas leak.

A call to the Charleston office of Peabody Energy, the parent company of Eastern Associated Coal, was not returned.

A man who answered the phone at Chisler's office in Fairview said the company would have no comment.

ROTFLOL. That is the funniest thing I've ever seen. I was just thinking though, "only in West Virginia". I suppose this is the only place left in America where we still have outhouses.
