The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

MIRAMAR, Fla. -- Despite the massive federal, state and local law enforcement effort to stop terrorists from entering the United States, there is no strong evidence of how well it is working.

Many experts are concerned that there are plenty of terrorists or sympathizers already in the country who have been here for years. Some are even citizens.

The Sept. 11, 2001, hijackers were the first wave and now the increasing number of arrests seems to signal a second wave of terrorism in South Florida.

Is it possible Syria wants to start trouble in Turkey making it look like the Kurds in Northern Iraq were responsible? Their reasoning probably is to make as much trouble for the U.S. as possible to take the heat off of them and Iran.

I know that was a big worry during the Gulf 2 because the Turks and the Kurds are bitter enemies. There is also a lot of oil at stake in the north.

I have to go back and read all that translation again, but could bricks merely mean buildings and of course glass is usually nuclear. Like turning something into glass, many here on FR talk about turning Mecca into glass if AQ attacks us again.

Faltering support for the Euro is going to anger the Muslims. They've been pushing hard to shift the preferred currency for oil transactions from the US Dollar to the Euro.

On my recent trip to Italy (March 2005), I noticed just how expensive goods and services have become under the Euro. At that time, the Euro was equivalent to 1.31 USD. Food prices seemed exorbitant compared to the same offerings in the US. The prices were high in Euros, thus were 31%+ higher when purchased with US Dollars and the bank commission to trade Euros for Dollars. I don't know how Italians tolerate those kind of prices.

Cryptographers have discovered a way to hack Bluetooth-enabled devices even when security features are switched on. The discovery may make it even easier for hackers to eavesdrop on conversations and charge their own calls to someone else’s cellphone.


Bluetooth is a protocol that allows different devices including phones, laptops, headsets and printers to communicate wirelessly over short ranges - typically between 10 and 100 metres.


Over the past few years security experts have devised many ways of hacking into Bluetooth communications, but most require the Bluetooth security features to be switched off.


In April 2004, UK-based Ollie Whitehouse, at that time working for security firm @Stake, showed that even Bluetooth devices in secure mode could be attacked. His method allowed someone to hijack the phone, giving them the power to make calls as if it were in their own hands."
