Pakistan has increased its defence budget for the year 2005-06 to produce more nuclear arsenals, the Voice of Germany reports.
Quoting a German newspaper commenting on the increase, the radio reports that although peace talks are progressing gradually yet Minister of State for Finance, Omar Ayub says that cause of this increase in defence budget is the need to preserve national security and integrity.
Pakistan has deployed about 75,000 troops on its borders with Afghanistan, where Taliban and Al-Qaeda are hiding. Money is also required for making more nuclear capable missiles.

"Military hunt cars carrying bombs"
From correspondents in Jakarta
June 13, 2005
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The newspaper said its source was a military telegram in Indramayu that carried details of the five suspect cars.
The chief of the Indramayu district military command Lieutenant Colonel Bambang Heriyadi had confirmed the memo, Koran Tempo reported.
"All military personnel have been ordered to be more watchful and vigilant in monitoring strangers. This is an early prevention step against bombing threats," the paper quoted Colonel Heriyadi saying.
He said all five cars had Jakarta-issued licence plates."
ARTICLE SNIPPET #2: "Indonesian police have warned that Azahari and Top, alleged key members of the al Qaeda-linked Jemaah Islamiah militant network, are currently recruiting people and planning another attack."

A Moroccan container of metals and scrap was sent back from Italy to Morocco, last week, after the radioactivity alarm system at the Italian seaport of Aspzia was activated.
Bladi.Net reports that the suspected container, which was sent back to Casablanca on board of the Zagora ship which brought it to Italy, will be examined in Morocco by a special team from the Moroccan national center for radioactivity and a team from the Moroccan Ministry of Health.
It should be noted that this container, belonging to Idry David Kenitra Company, was the fifth Moroccan container, which was sent back to Morocco in recent years, from Aspzia seaport in Italy, due to such reasons.

Very interesting, especially in light of the increasead terror threats in Indonesia. Thanks.
Yep, it seems things are escalating (at least in the news and propaganda arenas) in the mideast.

At least eight people have been killed and 36 others injured by four huge blasts in Iran's southwestern city of Ahvaz, while in Tehran one person has been killed and four others have been injured in an explosion.
The explosions on Sunday morning targeted several public buildings in Ahvaz, an ethnic Arab-majority city close to the border with Iraq and capital of the oil-rich Khuzestan province.
Aljazeera reported that the buildings were damaged by the blasts, adding that no group has claimed responsibility so far.
The province's deputy governor, Gholam Reza Shariati, told state television that unidentified attackers were trying to "attack the territorial integrity of the country and damage the election process".
Iran is to go to the polls to elect a new president on Friday.
Shariati put the toll at five and said 80 were hurt. State television, quoting medical sources, said eight people were killed.
Interior Ministry spokesman Jahanbaksh Khanjani said one of the blasts - the first to strike Iranian soil in several years - was a car bomb outside the Ahvaz prefecture.
Iran's state-run television reported later on Sunday that one person was killed and four injured in an explosion in central Tehran, hours after the Ahvaz blasts.
No further details were immediately available about the Tehran blast, which occurred near the Imam Hussein square in the city centre.
'Terrorists' blamed
A top national security official, Ali Agha Mohammadi, blamed "terrorists" and Arab separatists sheltered by US troops in neighbouring Iraq for the blast.

Yes, they do seem to be escalating, unfortunately.
Fazlur Rehman Khalil goes underground
* Agencies launch hunt for former JA chief
By Mohammad Imran
ISLAMABAD: Maulana Fazlur Rehman Khalil, former chief of Jamiatul Ansar (JA), has gone into hiding after the arrest of Hamid Hayat and Umer Hayat who told the Federal Bureau of Investigation that they received training from a Pakistani Al Qaeda camp allegedly run by Khalil.
Security agencies have begun efforts to arrest Khalil after Hamid Hayat and Umer Hayat were arrested in Lodi, California.
Sources said he was earlier released by security agencies after eight months detention. Khalil was released on the condition that he separate himself from his militant activities but after this new development security agencies have resumed efforts for his arrest, sources said.
Khalil was arrested from his house by security agencies on May 20, 2004, but sources said security agencies found no evidence of his involvement in militant activities in Afghanistan

Holes in story about California arrests
By Khalid Hasan
Washington: Experts continue to find holes in the FBIs case against a California father and son, both of Pakistani extraction, and the existence of terrorist training camps around Rawalpindi.
Marvin Weinbaum, a South Asia expert at the Middle East Institute, expressed scepticism in an interview published by the San Francisco Chronicle at the weekend about the presence of a camp near Rawalpindi.
According to the newspaper, The former State Department analyst expressed scepticism about the assertion in the original FBI affidavit, deleted from a later affidavit, that Hamid Hayat had been given a first-class tour of all the inner workings of terrorist camps and had seen hundreds of attendees from various parts of the world.
The presence of so many Arabs and Muslims from outside the region would be hard to hide, Weinbaum said. He also questioned the assertion that Hamids father, Umer Hayat, had visited several operational training camps and observed weapons and urban warfare training, physical training and classroom education. You dont share that information with trainees. You create tight cells,Weinbaum said.
In addition, he said, it is very difficult to approach these camps. But he added that there are Al Qaeda cells all over the country as well as militant training camps run by Pakistani and Kashmiri jihadi groups.
The newspaper quoted Pakistan foreign office official Naeem Khan as having rejected the assertion. There are no training camps in Pakistan, he said. We are the frontline state in the fight against terrorism. How could we allow such camps in our country? The newspaper also quoted Pakistani journalist Rahimullah Yusafzai, who said it was unlikely that even if such a camp existed it would be close to Rawalpindi. He said two large training camps at Muridke and Mansehra had been dismantled after 9/11. They may have been established elsewhere, he added.
Michael Krepon, founder president of Stimson Centre, was, however, of the view that al Qaeda has long maintained a support network in Pakistans remote, mountainous border with Afghanistan, and most experts believe that clandestine training sites operated by different jihadi organisations are concentrated in the North-West Frontier Province, in Waziristan, in the Punjab and in Azad Kashmir.
The San Francisco Chronicle report said other allegations made by the FBI had also raised questions. The governments first affidavit said the training camp the Lodi man allegedly attended was operated by Maulana Fazlur Rehman. In a second affidavit, however, his name was omitted, and it is unclear what, if any, role Rehman has in the current investigation.
Arnaud de Borchgrave, director of the Transnational Threat Project at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, said Rehman used to brag that he was a friend of Osama bin Laden, even after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The veteran anti-Pakistan American journalist in the past has made several sweeping claims that have remained unproven, such as the declaration that Osama bin Laden is living in Peshawar city.
It is obvious that the FBI has confused two men with the same name: Maulana Fazlur Rehman of the JUI and Maulana Fazlur Rehman Khalil of the former Harkat al-Ansar. There is also much confusion about the arrest and rendition to the US of Abu Farraj al-Libbi, who is not on the US wanted list of al Qaeda leaders but whom the Pakistan government has billed as the No. 3 man in al Qaeda.

CAIRO, 13 June 2005 Egyptian authorities yesterday released 163 members of the banned Muslim Brotherhood who were among hundreds detained in a crackdown on the opposition movement during May protests, a judicial source said. Police arrested hundreds of Muslim Brotherhood members during the protests for political reform and then jailed hundreds more in later demonstrations calling for the release of those held. An Interior Ministry source said 486 people were still being held for ties to the Brotherhood.
They include leading members of the group, which like other opposition groups says recent political reform by the government aims to secure power for the incumbents rather than allow more competition. The Brotherhood says a constitutional amendment replacing the old referendum on a single candidate for the post of president with a system allowing multi-candidate elections in fact aims to bar it from fielding a candidate.
To contest the election, the Brotherhood would have to win the approval of at least 65 members of Parliament and the support of members of other elected bodies, which are all dominated by the ruling party. Close to 200 have now been released but the movements main leaders remain behind bars, including secretary-general Mahmoud Ezzat and Issam Al-Iryan, another senior Brotherhood official.

Commandos Continue to Press Terrorists
By Spc. Matthew McLaughlin, USA
Special to American Forces Press Service
CAMP LIBERTY, Iraq, June 11, 2005 More than 600 suspected terrorists have been detained in Baghdad area operations led by the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, since May 20, said the team's deputy commander Lt. Col. Michael J. Infanti on June 10 here.
Operation Squeeze Play South, the largest combined Iraqi-coalition operation to date, involved four Iraqi brigades and four American battalions, along with U.S. Air Force and Navy support.
The operation's intent was to both crush the insurgency around Baghdad and prepare the area for replacement units when the 2nd BCT redeploys, said Capt. Bryan McCarthy, a liaison officer from Syracuse, N.Y., with 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment. McCarthy said he and other soldiers were not dismayed at the operations at the tail end of the deployment, but rather saw the mission as one final chance to leave their mark in Iraq.
"We'll be here until we leave anyway; this isn't interfering in our leaving," McCarthy said. "We rounded up a lot of detainees and we're setting the next unit up for success."
The operation included an Iraqi-coalition air-assault mission to secure a terrorist safe house where 50 terror suspects were captured and detained. It was only the second time that the unit's soldiers air-assaulted with Iraqi forces.
"This was a great way to end the year together, to do a battalion air assault," McCarthy said, noting the importance of the element of surprise. "It keeps the enemy guessing. They never know when they are going to see us."
Variety was key in the operation, as commandos threw everything they had at the terrorists, including air strikes and close-air support, military officials said. Air Force jets bombed two terrorist bunkers used to store munitions. After the bombings, numerous secondary explosions lasted for several hours, they noted.
"This is the biggest operation we've done with the 10th Mountain (Division)," said Air Force Capt. Will McCrink, an Air Force liaison with the 20th Air Support Operations Squad, Fort Drum, N.Y. "We put the hurt on the enemy, so it leaves the area stable for the transfer of authority."
More than 230 suspected terrorists were detained during Operation Squeeze Play South. The brigade's previous mission, Operation Commando Brickyard, detained 440 suspected terrorists in the Abu Ghraib district of Baghdad. Even though the 2nd BCT was in command, most raids and missions were handled by Iraqi forces, Infanti said.
"Contrary to what people believe, this is an Iraqi Army operation. Ninety-eight percent of the suspected anti-Iraqi forces retained are under the control of the Iraqi government. This is a great step forward, not only for the government and military of Iraq, but for the people of Iraq as well," he said.

144 Arrested At Huge Cockfight
CBS News ^ | June 13, 2005 | AP Staff
Posted on 06/12/2005 11:48:24 PM PDT by seacapn
(AP) At least twelve dozen people were arrested Saturday as about a hundred federal agents and other law enforcement officers raided what they said may have been the largest cockfight in the country.
Several SWAT teams, helicopters and dozens of state troopers participated in the raid Saturday on the sprawling Del Rio Cockfight Pit in Cocke County, Tennessee. They seized about $40,000 in cash and killed more than 300 roosters.
"Reputedly, this was the largest cockfight in the United States," said District Attorney Al Schmutzer Jr. "It was becoming open and notorious, and you just can't stand back and let something operate like that in the community."
"By and large, these people who are fighting chickens are law-abiding citizens, but they're violating the law when they fight roosters in Tennessee," he told The Knoxville News Sentinel.
The 144 were each charged with being a spectator to cockfighting, a misdemeanor in Tennessee. If convicted, they face up to 11 months and 29 days in jail and a $2,500 fine.
