What is that I hear in the background? Buchanan laughing softly to himself?
NIxon's Long dead and gone...
Anyways if GOD ALmighty can send his only Son into this world as a JEW who the heck has a right to question GOD!
Funny thing is, it seems like Nixon is more worried that Felt is Catholic.
A sweeping statement. Yet given the secularism among many, if not most Jews in the US, not altogether untrue.
However despicable Nixon's reason for rejecting Felt might be, we are fortunate that he kept a Hoover protege out of the Director's office. It may be the best thing ever done by an anti-Semite.
Good grief the man is dead, dead, dead. He's been dead a long time. He screwed up, he resigned, he wrote a book and he died.
Is this what is meant by "beating a dead horse"??????
Wow, this really raises my "deep admiration" for Nixon. (/ SEVERE sarcasm off)
Mark Felt isn't Jewish.
Well, for all the anti-Semitic accusations against Nixon, it seems ironic that it was Nixon who saved Israel's azz in 1973 when he put U.S. Armed Forces on a global alert when the Soviets were threatening to put their forces into the Middle East to save their Arab proxies from being utterly destroyed by Israel.
The bottom line to all this is that W. Mark Felt is a rat bastard who violated his own oath of office and federal laws by disclosing investigative data to two unauthorized parties (Woodward & Bernstein), and 91 years old or not, he ought to be prosecuted for it, unless that pardon he received from the Reagan Administration covers ALL offenses?
Felt and his clan are doing this to cash in, and they have admitted as much. Felt is a hero like John Dean is a hero.
And John Dean is a lying, treasonous POS.
How do I know?
G. Gordon Liddy said so, and HE is a man of honor.
Wasn't Henry Kissinger Jewish? I don't understand why Nixon would appoint him as Secretary of State if he disliked Jews so much.
Mark Felt was a Washington career bureaucrat. Cabinet level and top department jobs never go to career bureaucrats. One of the last top career jobs to go political was the Director, Bureau of Land Management, Dept of Interior in the 70s with the passage of FLPMA. Felt was a disgruntled career employee who at 18 years with the govt looked forward to taking the top job at the FBI but was sorely disappointed. His revenge was to take down the Nixon Administration by hook or crook.
There it is there.
Nixon was no hero, but neither was Felt.
Sort of reminds you of the modern Democrats, who are horrified that a Christian might head any governmental agency.
Does Nixon's help for Israel prove he wasn't an anti Semite?I think Nixon saw Israel as a tactical ally in that part of the World. Soviets were arming the other side. Israel was in big trouble in the 73 conflict. Its loss would have been a disaster for US foreign policy and Nixon'e Presidency. I doubt Nixon loved Israel for the meaningful notion of Zionism.
True Nixon had Jews in his cabinet. Not only Kissinger, but Bill Safire and law partner Leonard Garment who was one of his closest confidents. However, one his more interesting friends was the late Rabbi Baruch Korf. Nixon was known to spill his guts to a man who was a constant presence. When Nixon resigned and went back to San Clemente he called on Korf for solace.
Nixon is a very complex figure. BTW, he was certainly NO Conservative. He talked a good game. He became known as a Red baitor which infuriated the Left. But, his Presidency was a disaster for our causes. Nixon was probably a very flawed individual. However, I'm beginning to believe most Presidents have to have a screw loose to endure what it takes to get to the Oval Office. Was he a bigot? Mircky stuff. He certainly had his moments.
You have to put this into perspective. First, Felt wasn't Jewish; Second the Jewish lobby was very, very Democrat at that time, even more so than now. Last, the Jewish population was much less assimilated then. You can't understand if you weren't out of high school at the time. it was just different.
I remember a Jewish grad student that I knew that wanted to take me home to his family to introduce me as girl friend, just to shock them with my Irish name. Times were very different for Jews as well as the gentiles.
Oh, and welcome to Free Republic, I see you signed up very recently.
