QUOTE OF THE DAY

Comments made by President George W Bush when he nominated Congressman Chris Cox as SEC Chairman

“Chris understands how markets work, and he knows the need for transparency in financial exchanges and in the halls of business. He proved that he can bring people together of diverse opinions to get things done. That kind of leadership will be invaluable as the chairman of the SEC.

I've given Chris a clear mission: To continue to strengthen public trust in our markets so the American economy can continue to grow and create jobs. The nation is increasingly a nation of stock holders. A generation ago, only a small percentage of American families invested in stocks and bonds. Today, more than half of households are investing -- for their families and for their futures. Now more than ever, we must make sure Americans can rely upon the integrity of our markets. “

There has been strong reaction from North Korea after Vice President Dick Cheney’s remarks on the Larry King Live Show aired on 31st May 2005

North Korea called Vice President Dick Cheney a 'bloodthirsty beast' on June 2 2005, in response to Cheney saying the North's leader Kim Jong-il was irresponsible and ran a police state. 'Cheney is hated as the most cruel monster and bloodthirsty beast, as he has drenched various parts of the world in blood,' a North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman was quoted as saying by Pyongyang's official KCNA news agency. A North Korean soldier observes the South Korean side at the truce village of Panmunjom, in the demilitarised zone separating the two Koreas, about 55 km (34 miles) north of Seoul May 28, 2005.

Vice President Dick Cheney, seen here in January 2005, made a tough attack on North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il that set off a new war of words between the United States and the Stalinist state
