Bush Chooses Rep. Chris Cox to Lead SEC; Has Background in Foreign Policy As Well As Economics

Christopher Cox to lead the Securities and Exchange Commission Thursday, a day after William Donaldson announced he was stepping down after 28 months. With Cox at his side at a White House ceremony, Bush called the Californian "a champion of the free enterprise system in Congress" and said "he'll be an outstanding leader of the SEC."

Cox, 52, a member of the House Republican leadership, has a wide-ranging background, from foreign policy and economic issues to homeland security. He has represented California in Congress for 16 years. Before that, he was a corporate finance lawyer in private practice and served as a senior counsel in the Reagan White House.

This could potentially be something significant. The last guy (Donaldson) went overboard in his regulatory zeal and got quite a few things rolling that were counter-productive to the free market. If this new guy is a bit more reasonable and tones down the "guilty-unless-proven-innocent" attitude that is currently pervading the SEC we could see a positive reaction from the stock market.

Yep, clearly "extraordinary" circumstances given that the media has identified him as a conservative.

"So much for Cox running against DiFi next year."

Cox wouldn't stand a chance against DiFi. In fact, her Senate seat will remain hers for as long as she wants it.

Spitzer has cost investors billions of dollars in equity. He set himself up a a mini-me SEC. Bush is doing housecleaning. Cutler gone last month and now Donaldson who has been a major problem.

I've read recently that Spitzer sucked 8 BILLION dollars out of the security industry. I ask you; where was the original source of that money?
