Much has been written about the need and desire of Felt's family to cash in on his 15 minutes of fame. I have no problem with this, but we're also hearing about how he is living in a converted garage at his daughter's house, and that she has taken care of him for 20 years. Before designating her for sainthood. I 'd like to point out that he has been receiving a federal pension all this time, and he retired at the top of the federal pay system I know very little about the federal system, but assume there are many here who can estimate what his salary was at the time he retired, and what his pension is, even assuming that he elected a reduced benefit option to provide a survivor benefitfor his wife.
If Felt has advanced Alzheimer's Disease as reported, then he is not capable of providing informed consent for this media circus. The daughter, an actress by history, is positively gushing with the attention.
By all reports, when Felt was more lucid, he absolutely did not want his story in the limelight for public consumption. The daughter and grandson are money grubbers, and heartless for parading this man in front of the cameras.
Well, someone is. We don't know that it's Felt.
I see no problem with a garage apartment, as long as it was properly converted to an apartment and does not live like a garage. I've known others that have made that conversion successfully. The question would be the money. Since he is suffering dimentia, it would make sense that the daughter is responsible for handling the money. I would think that he gets a good pension. Medical expenses could take up a good bit. I would assume that they may have to hire extra help for him. Would that be covered by a source other than the pension? Since it seems that she needs the money she could make off of her father, it raises the question about what she's done with his pension. It may be all on the level. But I know that my husband's brother-in-law and wife are taking the checks of both of their parents and spending it. They have made certain that both parents are living comfortably, but neither are particularly happy because they've been talked into living with them and have to give their checks over to them. This kind of thing happens.
FYI..I've been the primary financial support for my parents for years, as well as being the primary care-giver for my dad the last months of his life. In addition, my MIL lived with us the last ten years of her life, and we took care of her at home the entire time..She died in her bed, with us sitting with her..so I know waht's involved. I also know, from what I have seen professionally, sadly how many kids financially take advantage if their elder parents. The daughter is depicting herself as needy. My point is that Felt isn't financially needy. He's probably better off financially, because of the pension, than 95 % of people his age. Also..he owned a home..where's the $$ from the sale..he gad a good salarty..they had otgher assets..where is it? He is NO medical expewnses..government employees hget everything paid for. It doesn't add up..Flat out, I'll state he's been supproting her and her kids, knowingly or not..all these years..Also..no mention of daughter's husband...did she work...
My dad became physically incapacitated and was invited to live with his brother.
Before long he signed over all his worldly goods to the brother who intimidated and cajoled him into doing so.
At first Dad complained that he had no idea what happened to his CDs that were due to be rolled over....soon we learned that the brother was insisting.....and since Dad was dependent upon him the end result was that everything was taken away from him, including his dignity.
That's the impression I got from the press conference by the family.
They seemed giddy with their success at exploiting the old traitor.
Yep, it was hard not to notice her "gushing". She looked absolutely thrilled to see all the media while her brain was thinking cha-ching.
Sorry, but the dementia story came from Woodward.
Giddy is an understatement. I half expected her to start jumping and smiling and screaming ala Cruise.
That is one family it would be better to leave to their own devices. In fact, I kind of wish they would sue Woodward for misrepresentation!
Is that the case with the federal government, particularly when the wrongdoing involves official duties?

And I also think that the folks who think he's a creep (10 points if you can tell me what that stands for!) are people who think Nixon did nothing wrong. I don't really have an opinion on Nixon...but I was glad he resigned. In a very serious teen-aged mind, the guy who runs the most powerful nation on earth should not lie, and should not try to cover it up. He was right to leave, and W&B did us all a favor by exposing the lies. Remember, even in the 60's we didn't trust the Warren Commission, why would we believe a Grand Jury?
Just out of curiosity, did Woodward say Alzheimer's or dementia, because there are other forms in addition to Alzheimer's, though that's the worst from what we've seen.
Looked like she just experienced something better than sex.
Can't recall exactly but I believe he said that he didn't think the man was capable of giving his permission to reveal his identity.

Yes..moist any governmental pension is fully protected. Once you retire..it's safe..no mater what you did..You can be sued in civil court
Plus, they are virtually all at ground level and perfect for wheelchair or walker access.

I thought it was reported in the early breaking of the story that he had recently suffered a stroke and his mental capacity was affected. Dementia was assumed by many and does cover a broad number of symptoms.
If his pension is 4,000K per month, remember, they live in California. Also, a garage apartment is a great idea out there. In Florida, it cost about 3,000K to have the kind of care he would require in 'home'. I can only imagine what it would cost in CA. Just my 2 cents.
