Much has been written about the need and desire of Felt's family to cash in on his 15 minutes of fame. I have no problem with this, but we're also hearing about how he is living in a converted garage at his daughter's house, and that she has taken care of him for 20 years. Before designating her for sainthood. I 'd like to point out that he has been receiving a federal pension all this time, and he retired at the top of the federal pay system I know very little about the federal system, but assume there are many here who can estimate what his salary was at the time he retired, and what his pension is, even assuming that he elected a reduced benefit option to provide a survivor benefitfor his wife.
I didn't say anything about the (money grubbing) daughter and elderly "abuse".
Hubby now has power of attorney.
So this is what FreeRepblic has come to. When we don't like somebody actions, they become money grubbers, abusers, wife beaters...Unbelievable.

Wasn't Felt involved in some legal proceedings for which he was pardoned by Reagan? Could it be that he may forfeited part of his pension in connection with these proceedings?
That falls into the catagory of "NUNYA"
I believe the daughter is a money grubber, but NOT a wife beater or an abuser.
Nope...pension can't be forfeited for criminal wrongdoing..there are many now in jail who get large monthly checks sent to escrow accounts..
Let's say somebody was making millions off of your story. Why on Earth wouldn't you come out and do it yourself? The only difference between Felt and his family and others who write tell all books is that they're being honest about their motives. It's almost refreshing to hear someone say they want to tell their story for the money instead of what we usually hear, like, "IT'S THERAPEUTIC." or "I WANT TO HELP OTHERS IN MY SITUATION." We all know why people write tell-all books.
Afraid so. Guess it's easier to go down the road to negativity than to remain positive...for some. Hence the phrase "the dark side".
Felt was convicted of bugging the homes and businesses of Anti-War activists, Reagan pardoned him in 1982
I'll bet that his pension is based on the years that he remained in government service AFTER he leaked the info to the Washington Post. If he would have resigned back in 1972 or been fired by Nixon, his pension would have been a lot less. Instead, he hid his involvement and kept on accumulating money from the government and administration that he betrayed.
I wouldn't know about that. I did hear on Fox that he was at times not lucid. However, like many published articles and "news" reports, there are inaccuracies.
I will keep my hopes up.
"Felt, now 91, lives in Santa Rosa, Calif., and is said to be in poor mental and physical health because of a stroke. His family did not immediately make him available for comment, asking the news media to respect his privacy in view of his age and health.
Woodward is an overrated money grubbing slacker but that doesn't make it right for the daughter to cash in on her senile Father.
IMO, the questions you raise are legitimate, and would not have come to the fore, if Felt hadn't surfaced at this point in time, with his family front and center, angling for big bucks off this disgraceful incident.
Felt's slavish fanaticism to his own self-serving ambitions, caused him to ignore SOP, and the good of the country, choosing instead to go sub rosa with his story to the media.
What was Felt's hidden agenda?
It is no small consideration that the post-Nixon nation saw the horrific rise of liberalism---and the juggernaut to tolerate every idiocy the left wing could concoct.
Was Felt's disturbing motivation solely to satisfy his vainglorious ambitions?
No wonder Felt was passed over for promotion. The FBI had
his number, alright.
Any other agent would be prosecuted for violating his oath of loyalty to the USA as an FBI agent.
What a TV news spectacle this guy's family put on---crowing about his "heroics."
Now it seems they are itching only to pocket the proceeds from his depraved conduct while an offical of the US government.
I don't think this is a worthwhile avenue to pursue.
Also, while I may not like Felt and his family, I can understand why they might want to cash in on this information, rather than letting Woodward make a few more million on it after Felt passed away.
I guess I don't get it.
We know Felt's a criminal. He's obviously cashing in.
Going after his daughter is only going to look shabby. That's right out of Donald Segretti. Unnecessary.
Do Federal pensions index with COLA?
Yes, federal pensions under the old Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) are increased based upon the cost of living index.
If so, what would he be getting now?
This question is very difficult to answer. To answer it you would need to know how many years of service Felt had and what his three highest years earnings were and the date he retired. The computation would be very difficult but not impossible to accomplish. But since Felt apparently served over 42 years, he would have received the maximum percentage of 80% of his highest three year average earnings. If you know what that was, you can convert it to today's dollars since the Cost of Living adjustments were designed to keep pace with inflation.
Also, back then..did Fed employees pay into SocSec. Would he be also receiving Soc Security?
Under the CSRS federal employees did not pay into Social Security. Employees under the new Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS) do pay into Social Security. (That requirement was the DEMONrats' attempt in the mid-1980s to make Social Security solvent until 2150. I guess it didn't work, did it?)
I don't think you are being cynical. Today the number two individual in the FBI is a top grade member of the Senior Executive Service who earns something on the order of $156,000 as base pay. 80% of that amount comes to $124,800 or about $10,000 a month. That is a rather tidy sum. Anyone want to live in my garage? I only charge $2,000 a month but I cannot guarantee all the fog that San Francisco receives.
It is better for most folks to be able to stay in their own home as long as possible. But someone with dementia could need a lot of care, and if choosing to stay at home, then perhaps constant supervision. If he's getting good care, fine. If he's not...
