Much has been written about the need and desire of Felt's family to cash in on his 15 minutes of fame. I have no problem with this, but we're also hearing about how he is living in a converted garage at his daughter's house, and that she has taken care of him for 20 years. Before designating her for sainthood. I 'd like to point out that he has been receiving a federal pension all this time, and he retired at the top of the federal pay system I know very little about the federal system, but assume there are many here who can estimate what his salary was at the time he retired, and what his pension is, even assuming that he elected a reduced benefit option to provide a survivor benefitfor his wife.
Thanks..I have a T REx..I sold my first car, a Studebaker Lark..a long time ago...wish I had a Golden Hawk, though..
Caring for her dad at home now constitutes financial abuse of an elder in your mind? Good grief. Most old folk would LOVE to remain with family instead of staying at even the nicest 'senior facility'.
Yeah, I think you're right. Rostenkowski collects about $100,000/year.
you have to read the whole thread...I'm a good guy..I don't ever even kick the dog..
I wish I still had some of the old cars I drove ... unfortunately I had to drive them rather than store them ... and just as unfortunately my wife's car is a GM vehicle.
Trouble is.... you're making the whole thing up. It looked to me like a very nice home, and nice family.
I have been beaten up here all day..I shall now withdraw from the field of combat, bloody, but as yet unbowed..
I've been scanning it. You aren't a good guy, you're behaving like a nosy muckraking gossip. This is a fascinating story in our country's history. I think Felt has served a very interesting role in our country's history. OK - so republicans don't think he's a hero... well, he's not evil either. He just is, and he did what he did. I'd rather hear his story than how ken5050 knows better than he does what good living is.
OK..thanks for sharing that...
The question is whether or not he was coerced into coming forward. An ancillary question is whether or not this whole thing has been fabricated in order to protect someone else.
I agree that those are more interesting, and 'founded' questions.
Your penchant of providing cover fire for supposed "caregivers" in questionable circumstances, is well observed and justly noted.
However, if the daughter will be left without an income after his death, it brings into question whether or not he willingly came forward, and, in fact, whether or not (Woodward being aware that he isn't often lucid) has been tagged with notoriety that isn't even his.
If they would lie about Deep Throat for 30 years, why not continue to lie? Why should I believe Woodward now?
What if Felt WASN'T Deep Throat, but Woodward needed to name someone, because he had made it up? What if Woodward entered into an agreement with a desperate family to name this guy after his death? And what if Woodward reneged on paying them money, so they decided to free-lance?
Lots of things to ponder here.
From experience I could add "likely all doped up".
Government pension based on highest three years.
Percentage based on number of years in Government service, that is, if he was under civil service pension.
"I'd rather hear his story.."
You won't hear his story- you will only hear his daughter's and Woodstein's version.
His daughter says " he has dementia."
In all his previous interviews-pre and post stroke/? Alzheimers Felt denied being DT.
When the daughter brought Felt to the front door to wave to the media , he looked happy and well cared for, but, confused.
It was a disquieting moment and looked manipulative and disrespectful of an elderly man with Alzheimers.
The daughter's " prodding and coaching him ..to give his luke warm admission " to the editors at People, for money, is unseemly, at a minimum.
ken5050 raises important questions about the behavior of the daughter and the family lawyer.
Jim Rosen has been doing pieces on Special Report the last few nights, chronicling facts that cast doubt as to whether Felt is even Deep Throat or the sole source for DT.
Government pensioners certainly are no better off than any other large coporate group and do not "have it all" by any means.
The exception to all this are those that are elected to or work on "The Hill". Their pensions are very different and their medical care is entirely exceptional. Makes me wonder what Spector is complaining about.
Since what Felt did was clearly criminal behavior in both the Agnew and the Nixon cases I figure he deserves more than whatever is on his plate because his position as an elite earned him the right to be exempt from the law.
I know of decorated war veterans whom the military have deprived of their pensions for obscene reasons but then they aren't considered among the "elite" so they are less than equal under the law.
"I still want to hear it from a doctor about whether or not this guy is "demented".
Why? My MIL died last October after about 4 years of Dementia, Senility or Alzheimer's. Take your pick. She was evaluated in the last year by 3 experts, a pyschiatrist, a neurologist and an Geriatics Specialist with a sub specialities in senility, dementia and Alzheimers.
The pysch said she had Dementia and Alzheimers. The Neurologist really didn't know and felt she had senility. The Geriatics specialist said she had all three. Her death certificate states that she died of heart failure. Her FP and minister probably nailed it with "She was old and got confused more each day!"
That is a very old and constant story, OldFriend.
It is not at all rare and rarely rare to have done by family.
