Polish TV crew in trouble in Russia 02.06.2005

A Polish diplomat from the Moscow Embassy has gone to Ingushetia to investigate the curcumstances of the detention in Vladikavkaz, the capital of North Ossetia, of three Polish television journalists. After an 8-hour questioning, they had their video cassettes confiscated and were handed over to the Russian Federation security services. They were accused of filming without permission in the region of troops stationing in North Caucasus.

"Yes. In a democratic country respectful of human rights. Russia is no such country."

You base that on all of years of living there in Post-Soviet Russia, or is your info from the MSM? I've lived and worked there for the past 11 years. Sure, they have a long way to go on the democracy front, but in a lot of ways their press is tens times freer than ours.

"Russians did not invade Chechnya and this is according to International Law. You cannot invade a territory that is within your legal and recognized boundaries."

Yes they did it. First time in the XIX century (1818), and many times afterward.

Your legal definitions. So anschluss of Austria and Czechoslovakia was OK because it was "legal"? Holocaust was legal too. The Jews also had all the required papers before being transported to Auschwitz.

>Now that has a nice commie ring to it.

I guess you never heard of the "United States Air Force Security Service"?

"I've lived and worked there for the past 11 years."

You lived in the wrong places. Should have gone to Chechnya. I suppose Moscow was a quite nice city even in 1943.

You just don't know what your compatriots do, because all the foreign juralists are arrested before they even get there.

Man o' man - you are WAAAAY off base. Anschlus was illegal, the holocaust was illegal under international law. Chechnya has been a part of Russia for over a century. Should we all give back any conquered territory from over a century ago? What would Poland look like?

"But that's a nice leftist tactic - point out a fact and you're labeled a racist. The next argument would be to call me a fascist. (Goodwins Law)."

Of course you are a fascist!

And while you're at it - say hello to your friends at DU or the leftist EU equivalent. I hope you at least try to educate yourself while you're trolling FR.

You mean FReeopers love Russian imperialism. Is that the current definition of an American Conservative?

It would be Russian imperialism if they invaded Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus, the Baltics, Kazakhstan, etc. You cannot invade a terrority that is already a part of your Federation. Any country would put the same rebellion down. If Krakow rebelled and declared independence Polish troops would be quashing it - you refuse to acknowledge this. What an American Conservative believes in is the territorial integrity of a sovereign state, such as Russia. What they also can see is that the loss of Chechnya would inspire Tatarstan, Kalmykia, Komi, and other republics to also break away, putting a nuclear armed country in chaos, inviting a violent civil war that would spill over into the near abroad - of which Poland is a part of. I hope you can see through your anti-Russian bias to realize this. I also hope you passed my "regards" to your friends at DU.

Conversation with you was a really great education. I learned a lot about the state of mind of today's Russians. Very bitter lesson.

"If Krakow rebelled and declared independence Polish troops would be quashing it"

You are again making a fool of yourself. Chechnya is an ethnically different country. It's always been Chechen land, not Russian. Can't you see it?
No, you can't. I'm wasting my time.

You're the fool - there are over 100 ethnicities in the Russian Federation and they have been a part of Russia for centuries - they all had leaders who pledged allegience to Russia and fought and bled for Russia starting centuries ago and continuing to this day. They also enjoy full citizenship rights and privleges. You cannot understand this, or refuse to. Most of New Mexico in the US is Mexican - should they be allowed to rebel and join Mexico?
