Polish TV crew in trouble in Russia 02.06.2005

A Polish diplomat from the Moscow Embassy has gone to Ingushetia to investigate the curcumstances of the detention in Vladikavkaz, the capital of North Ossetia, of three Polish television journalists. After an 8-hour questioning, they had their video cassettes confiscated and were handed over to the Russian Federation security services. They were accused of filming without permission in the region of troops stationing in North Caucasus.

And to try to refocus back on the orginal topic - what would the Polish authorities do if a Russian television crew was filming in an operational area of the Polish military without obtaining permission prior to filming?

"It's ok for Poland to occupy Gdansk, Olsztyn"

You are making a fool of yourself. Ther are no Germans in those cities. The only significant German minority in Poland is in Silesia, ca. 100 000 people.

You have a peace treaty with the Germans which cede these terroritories to Poland because it was made as a result of the Yalta and Tehran Conferences (where Roosevelt and Churchill were complicit in selling out Eastern Europe to Stalin). The Chechens who were conquered over a century ago also signed up to be a part of Russia. So, what's the problem now? You fail to see your hypocrisy.

Taiwan is not invaded because the U.S. recognizes its right to existence. Apples and Oranges, btw.

You continue to miss the point about Gdansk. There are no Germans in Gdansk because the Poles ensured conditions were so bad for them that they left. Hmmm, and if the Russians did that to Chechnya after it was conquered during Tsarist times? And, what do you think about the Chechen SS Units in WWII who were allied with Nazi Germany? If Chechnya had been an independent country during WWII it would have been given to the Soviet Union as recompense for its actions during WWII, see an analogous situation: Gdansk and Eastern Germany which is now in Poland.

My honest guess? I think that would do everything to hide the incident in order to avoid the headaches. They would deliver the complaints in secret and increased the security.

The tape would be lost and equipment kept for a few weeks. The crew members would not get the entry visa again.

Fool? Obviously you don't understand what a "hypothetical situation" is... Danzig is missing Germans because they were driven out, btw. Since you're good at pointing out the "crimes" of other countries, fess up to your own.

"caterwauling from leftist Europeans over Chechnya"

Leftist? It's got nothing to do with political positions. It's about common, human decency. By the way, I'm not a leftist.

Maybe the Chechens who do not want to live in Russia should be sent to Germany (where the surviving inhabitants of these cities went)?

Hmm, so same result, but surrounded in secrecy. Therefore keeping the Polish government immune from the same sort of criticism that you heap upon Russia. Nice (/sarcasm)

Nice idea - open Polish cities up to the Chechens in the same numbers that they are in Tver, St. Pete and Moscow. Oh, whoops, that's right - Polish border guards are already denying Chechens entry into Poland. Too late, I guess.

Chechens didn't invade Russia. Russia did invade Chechnya.

"fess up to your own."

Sure. We didn't drive Germans out of Danzig. Russians did it.

Why? Russian government should do the same. And probably it does in other cases we do not know about. Discretion might be a virtue, headaches are not :)

Human decency? Have you seen the tapes of what the Chechens do to non-Chechens kidnapped or captured in Chechnya, or in other regions of the Russian Federation? You obviously have zero personal experience with Chechens. They are a brutal harsh people and extremely cruel to those that they decide are their enemy.

Russians did not invade Chechnya and this is according to International Law. You cannot invade a territory that is within your legal and recognized boundaries.

The Soviets conquered Gdansk, the Poles drove the Germans out after the capitulation of Germany. Or, are you saying you'll invite them back and return Danzig to Germany?

"Taiwan is not invaded because the U.S. recognizes its right to existence."

Totally irrelevant. So when US stops recognizing the existence of Taiwan (and it should do it when its existence is no longer useful, right?) China may attack freely?

"Our polish heritage has been proven. And though being partition and rejected, we stood up for our self’s not once; many multiply times, and history of our nation can prove it, what we got is just a smack in a face and being spit on and forgotten. And we have been rejected and oppress by so many, this doesn't mean though we should not show respect and have gratitude for different nationality. Let me put this in one nail on a head -we are just humans."
Thank you

Pure racism.

What should happen is the media should respect the laws and observe the rules of any country in which they are operating. If they are caught violating the rules they should be treated as any other lawbreakers. I can tell you with 100% accuracy that the Polish television crew would have met the same fate had they videotaped outside of the Pentagon or in any areas of U.S. military bases if they did not obtain prior permission. And, being a free democratic country, we would publicize what we did. Keeping it secret only magnifies the incidents since most secrets of this type eventually leak out.

Yes. In a democratic country respectful of human rights. Russia is no such country.

Sorry, I didn't say they are inferior in anyway. But that's a nice leftist tactic - point out a fact and you're labeled a racist. The next argument would be to call me a fascist. (Goodwins Law).

They are brutal and harsh and cruel. Let's see - Kidnap an 11-year old Israeli teenager and send his finger to his dad when they demand a ransom.

Kidnap and rape foreign women and videotape it, later sell it at the CD market.

Capture Russian conscripts and slowly behead them, videotape it, and later sell it at the CD market.

Grab a Russian village girl off of the street. Wisk her away to Moscow, chain her to a heater in a rat-infested basement. Repeatedly gang rape her, drug her, and then send her off to the street to earn more money. Have her "recruit" other girls who then get the same treatment.

Bury Russian soldiers in the ground up to their head. Then urinate on them, beat them, put cigarettes out on their foreheads - videotape it and sell it at the CD market.

Attack a school in Beslan hoping to incite interfaith civil war. Kill hundreds of innocent children.

Send your women to Moscow to become homocide bombers.

Beat any rival at fruit markets in Moscow, be they from Armenia, Georgia, or Azerbajzhan.

Ignore the Chechen terrorists living in your apartment and don't turn them in Moscow, after all, they're only killing Russians and you've been paid well to house and feed them.

Behead British telecom workers - crime - working in Chechnya trying to improve their communications.

Kill any Chechen caught helping Russians rebuild Groznyj.

Kill any Chechen caught voting for pro-Russian candidates.

Expell anyone living in a village who might be pro-Russian, or better yet, kill them.

I could go on, but I hope you get the picture. If you cannot see that as cruel, brutal, and harsh, I have no idea how you would label it.
