TAMPA, Fla. -- In an attack that's rattled even veteran detectives, police in Florida said a 7-year-old boy has confessed to beating his baby sister to death.
Investigators said the boy was jealous of the attention the infant was getting and upset by her crying. They said the boy beat the baby with his fists, feet and a two-by-four.
The attack occurred in Tampa, while the boy was visiting his father.
Police said the father and his girlfriend were outside with neighbors when the boy came out and told them the baby was "bleeding." They said the seven-month-old had a bloody nose, and wasn't breathing. The parents rushed the baby to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
A spokesman said detectives noted they'd never seen someone so young "show so much violence and so little remorse."
I hate to say this, but the kid should be put to death. If someone so young has the capacity to murder their own infant sister, then they don't deserve life themselves and do not belong on this planet.
I know I'm being harsh but no amount of "rehabilitation" has ever been shown to work. There is a 99% chance that this kid will do it again if given the chance.
We had a 4 y/o stab his sister to death here.
I honestly don't have a clue other than no one is paying attention to the kids.
A few years back we had an 11 year old stab his 13 year old neighbor to death because she wouldn't "date" him. There were no parents in either home at the time.
I think you may be thinking of the 9 year old girl in New York. This is a 7 year old boy. Both are horrific stories.
IIRC, I think that was from the story yesterday about the friend killing her friend with a knife.....this is a different story...but what does it really matter? It is all the same, all of it reeks of bad parenting.
What kind monsters are being raised?
A very good question......
Local news described the sibling relationship as step-sister. Also said the boy was jealous of attention the baby received.
Broken or disfunctional family situation I bet !!!
I have five grandchildren who have been taught through love to look out for one another , and they do , thank GOD .. .. ..
OK,
Devil's advocate here...
Lets say we DO put to death all kids who kill ...
Even the ones as young as 4....
1. Who does the killing?
2. How are they executed?
3. Would you want to live next door to the person who puts these kids to death?
4. Lastly, do we really, truly want to live in a country that executes children?
(and the first One Note Wanda Hijack of 'but we abort them' post will get a personal boot in the backside from me).
Differnt kid, differnt state, differnt story, same result.......
I do believe he knew what he was doing. When I was 7 I still had a lot to learn, but I had very very very very clear NO BEATING AND NO KILLING. If 7 year olds don't understand that, there would be way more killings like this.
You're either a troll or ignorant.
Please provide your proof that 99 percent of 7-year-olds who have killed somebody cannot be rehabilitated.
Some people are just defective, so you can't say this wouldn't happen, but I bet the odds of it happening would be FAR, FAR lower.....
I dissagree a little bit in that you NEVER leave a baby with anybody else. There are people you trust and that is OK. I left my baby with my father while I was shopping and I was reassure nothing would happen to him. Or you can have very close friends. I know people with kids sometimes cover up for each other. There is nothing wrong with it.
What is draining the innocence from so many childhoods? Perhaps the fact that fewer adults appear willing to expend the effort creating the environment that allows childhood to exist in the first place. As a society, we seem to be regressing to an ancient era.
OK, but lets say the kid is raised watching movies like "House of a 1000 Corpses" from the time he's born (I know a kid like this).
Lets say that hitting with fists, punches and slaps are a pretty common occurance.
Lets say that this kid pretty much has been left to raise himself.
With that, I can see how he could do what he did.
Why post ANY story? It's local area news posted on FR for people to comment on and debate if the story necessitates. It is the fabric of FR, is it not?
What's with the "achievement" angle????
Jealousy is also found in animals and many dog attacks are caused for the same reason.
wow.
kid in a non-stable family situation.
Not being fathered enough?
Not being controlled enough by a mother who uses him for emotional support?
Wow.
I have heard of murderous attempts done by young kids who were sexually abused or physically abused as very small children, who had the bonds of trust shattered and had this horribly deep well of anger.
Whatever it is, it is a true tragedy for the people involved.
Do you think a 7 year old should be executed?
Correct-a-mundo , and well said Sax
