Cadet E-mail Casts Shadow on Bias Policy (Leftist Anti-religious Bigots Strafe the Air Force Academy)

By PAM ZUBECK

The Air Force Academy’s top cadet commander, who graduates today, sent an e-mail to all underclassmen Tuesday making more than a dozen references to the Bible and several to Jesus.

The cadet, senior Nicholas Jurewicz, said he attended the academy’s special religious sensitivity training but “didn’t think” to delete religious references before sending the message

In the message, Jurewicz .......says that during his cadet years he collected quotations he wants to share. “[T]he insight of others is an avenue to further our own development,” he writes. “Hopefully it will be so for you.”

The 22-page attachment contains dozens of quotations on leadership, challenge, war, attitude, love and faith. They’re from a range of ...famous people, including Erma Bombeck, Plato, Emerson, Gandhi, Newton, Patton, Dwight and Shakespeare. Also included are a sprinkling of selections from the Bible.

Kristen Leslie, a pastoral care expert at Yale , which has advised the academy on religious sensitivity issues, said the cadet’s message shows that the RSVP program falls short.

........ Chaplain Capt. Melinda Morton, an outspoken critic of the academy’s handling of religious issues, called the message “an excellent example” of the lack of understanding that is widespread at the academy of what’s appropriate as a government employee.

“ ...the cadet wing commander is doing this,” she said. “He’s supposed to be an example for all the other cadets, and he doesn’t get it.”

IN THE E-MAIL:

From Isaiah: “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles.”

From Galatians: “Bear one another’s burdens, and so you will fulfill the law of Christ........”

Graduation was today. Thunderbirds put on a great show. VP Cheney was pretty good, too.

So, if he's got quotes from the Bible along with other quotes, er NOT from the Bible, I don't see how this is a problem.

In fact, the idea that someone sees this as a problem (assuming for the sake of argument that it is how I described it) makes me think the radical religionists are right (on all sides, eh? now that's diversity) and we really are close to armageddon here.

GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS YOU TO ALL AIR FORCE GRADS! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! GIVE OUR ENEMIES HELL!

The anti-religion police are hard at work at the Academy. fringe nut Barry Lynn* has inserted himself in the situation and been posturing as some sort of "disinterested" umpire in the fracas.

*Yes, the same Barry Lynn, formerly of the ACLU who in public testimony in 1985 expressed his opinion that America would be a better place if we allowed both free and paid circulation of child pornography.

I'm outraged that he quoted Ghandi! Clearly he had the subversive intent of convert people to Hinduism by doing that. WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE! /sarcasm

The people who are all up in arms about this are the Taliban of Secularism. How long until their blasting statues of saints off of mountains (well, there is the mt. soledad cross).

I was just wondering.

If I were to publish the Bible under my own name, claiming that I wrote it. Then couldn't everyone just quote me and the anti-Christians would have no leg to stand on?

I could work in out with God beforehand so I didn't have to spend eternity in the fiery place. haha

Chaplain Melinda Morton complains that an email like this is particularly and especially odious. But how is it possibly "worse" than her meeting with cadets in REQUIRED instructional sessions with those metallic representations of the bloody cross of Jesus the crucified Christ flashing on her government-issued lapels?

Amendment I: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;.........

As long as the cadet is speaking for himself, requiring him to delete whatever religious references he cares to make would violate his "free exercise" rights under the First Amendment.

"...Kristen Leslie, a pastoral care expert at Yale University Divinity School, which has advised the academy on religious sensitivity issues, said the cadet’s message shows that the RSVP program falls short. “It does call into question how at least this one particular cadet saw the purpose of the RSVP training,” she said, adding that she believed the 50-minute sessions don’t allow cadets to “engage” the message sufficiently. “Obviously, this cadet thought he was sending meaningful things to his colleagues,” Leslie said. “In the context of the larger picture of what the academy is going through, he didn’t get it. My guess is he’s not the only one. I don’t hold him responsible. Leadership is responsible.”..."

Does anybody have a date when we're FINALLY FINISHED with these politically-correct assholes?

These cadets are going to spend years in harms' way in service to their Country, and this Kristen Leslie, a pastoral care expert is gonna tell them that they're doing it wrong? It sickens me.Deliver me from this insanity..........FRegards

It all started with BJ Clinton's first act in office:
Gays in the military - Don't ask, don't tell. And then it was tailhook and on and on.

And let's not forget giving some "credit" to the Democrats in Congress who decimated our intelligence during the 70's,
especially the gone but not forgotten Torracelli.

There are a lot of secularists that are pretyy upset that there are some 800 cadets (out of a student body of 4,000) attending small goup Bible studies. They see it as the vanguard of "the new theocracy" or some such.

Funny, how we have 43 consecutive Commanders-in-Chief making numerous references to God in official mass communications, but if a cadet shares his inspiring thoughts, he is required to pretend that God and the Bible don't matter to him. Sick, Very sick.

That's a wonderful quote for an Air Force cadet to share.

Any who objects to it is an ass.

on her government-issued lapels?

Technically, as an officer, she had to buy her own uniforms (and lapels). ;-)

"...Kristen Leslie, a pastoral care expert at Yale University Divinity School," Yale Univ. Divinity School is most definitely an example of oxymoron or at the least "Yaleymoron".

Asked how the message jibes with the academy’s religions sensitivity training, ... and a prohibition against citing scripture in government e-mail, he said, “I’ll leave that to the senior leadership to explain.

...the Air Force reemphasized its policy on electronic message signatures, banning the use of Scripture references that had been made by academy employees

At the end of the article is gives the 3 quotes, yes 3 quotes out of 22 pages of material! The crime of it all! How dare the cadet use 3 quotes from a religious text. How insensitive can he be?

Me thinks it is the thought police who are being and demonstrating religious insensitivity to this cadet. They are the ones violating their own precepts. We need to contact the university and support this cadet.

I guess if he had quoted some "death to the Infidels" nonsense from Bin Laden it would have been considered freedom of speech, applauded and interviewed by Couric for his "courage".

This morning as I read an article in the Colorado Gazette, http://www.gazette.com/display.php?id=1308006&secid=1, I became very upset with "Air Force Policy" regarding religious expression. It is this humble Americans opinion that a few dozen quotes out of 22 pages of materials offering inspiration toward success at the Academy is not inappropriate. What is inappropriate is the religious intolerance being displayed by the Academy.

All religions have the Right to free expression. It is the attempt at silencing the voices of religion that demonstrates intolerance. Religious sensitivity training should consist of teaching tolerance of other beliefs and not the silencing of the expression of those beliefs. Demanding the removal of all references to God, etc. is a violation of any cadets religious Right. If the academy truly wants to teach religious tolerance, then they should be teaching about and enforcing the First Amendment. The Amendment, when applied as designed, guarantees religious tolerance. Any cadet not ensuring the First Amendment Rights of his fellow cadets is failing to meet one of the very basic tenents of the United States of America.

If pains me to see the Academy has fallen into the PC police trap, when all the sensitivity training needed can be located in our own founding documents.

Respectfully,
