Battle to Tear Down a Tribute (ACLU vs. the CROSS)
FoxNews ^ | June 1, 2005 | David Asman

The Mojave Desert (search) is not the kind of hard-scrapple place you'd expect to find the latest battle in the culture wars.

But that's exactly where the ACLU is battling with locals to tear down a cross that was erected as a tribute to World War I veterans.

I do recall seeing that there is a bill proposed in the house with 19 cosponsors. Saw it sometime in the last 4 days here on FR.

In 1976, Congress passed the Civil Rights Attorneys Fee Awards Act, which was designed to encourage private lawyers to take on suits to protect civil and constitutional rights. The law provides that judges can order federal and state governments to pay legal fees to private lawyers who sued the government and won. The result has been a flood of civil rights cases in federal court.

And all this time I thought they worked pro bono. Am I just naive or are most people aware that the ACLU is paid with tax money?

The opposition to the cross, God and Religion can't have it their way all the time. The cross should stay. Period!!!!

The cross doesn't even serve a religious purpose here. How can it offend someone and why should they tear it down?

You put an Islamic symbol in the ACLU logo. But how many ACLU lawyers are Moslems? Can you name any? Most of the ones I've heard of are Jewish. But it's not politically correct to point that out. I consider liberal Jews (along with leftist Gentiles) to be as big a threat to this country as militant Moslems -- and MORE of a threat than the average, non-radical Americans of Islamic descent who never raise a stink about the things that the ACLU hates: The Ten Commandments, Christmas and cross memorials.

Note I complained about LIBERAL Jews (and leftist Gentiles). Lest any idiot brand me as bigoted, my heroes include conservative Jews like Lapin, Medved, Michael Savage. Just wish there were more of them. The liberals of the ACLU clearly hate Christianity -- perhaps with more vehemence than the average Muslim, because you don't see American Muslims protesting Christmas Carols, cross memorials and the like.

OK, OK, I've been fed up with them for a long while. What I'm starting is to think of ways to combat these people. And while I'm thoroughly incensed over their shots at the Boy Scouts, I'm livid about other tricks they're pulling:
They're doing everything they can to undermine the war on terror;
they brought suit against the USA to release all the pictures of the Abu Ghraib "torture," and found a suck-up judge to rule in their favor, and on and on and on.

It's insane, and something needs to be done, and while I don't know what, it's obvious that legal action isn't going to help.

Yeah, I thought I was pretty well informed, but gov't financing of the ACLU came as real suprise. I never even heard O'Reilly mention it, and he is really on the ACLU's case these days.

"You put an Islamic symbol in the ACLU logo."

I posted the first one I could grab that had "Anti Christian Lawyers Union" in the text. If you go back and look, (refresh you browser), I changed it.

If it offends them I say tough. They should NOT tear it down. I am sick and tired of the opposition always wanting to tear down things that represent goodness. How about the condom ads or all the filth in the movies that are advertised in public? How about the dresses that are baring it all i n public? That offends me but I don't ask them to stop wearing them. How about the filthy mouths on TV, movies and the like? I don't try to bar them. I don't watch or listen but I don't try to bar them from speaking and acting so filthy and degrading. The cross has been there in honor of these veterans and it should stay there. Everyone should stand up and support it's being there. This has all gone too far and I for one am sick and tired of the other side wanting it their way or the highway. It's time we stood up too for what WE think is right and just. We have rights too!

You brought out a lot of points I wanted to make. The crosses aren't there for religious purposes, but they are there to honor a soldier. How stupid it is to think otherwise!!! What are we going to do next, rip out angels that some people put in graveyards because their dead grandpa might get offended?

I do try to fight for good in my little corner of the world. I try to do what I can to make at least this little part better. I get saddened by some of the stuff that I see and the tactics that people use for certain things, but that's not going to stop me from trying to be a force for good (despite my many shortcomings) in my community. Even if Sodom and Gomorrah had had but a few good people, they would not have been utterly destroyed. Hopefully, I can help plant some seeds of goodness that will help change lives for the better.

Congratulations for being the sort of person who's not afraid to stand up for what is right.

As far as the military, those who fight for my freedom have my highest respect. I'm too wimpy to ever be in the service, so you will not hear ONE word of criticism to come from my lips.
