Deep Throat: Liberal Icon a Criminal. What a Surprise.
By N. Beaujon June 1, 2005
Well, well, the man who brought down Richard Nixon has finally come forward to solve the decades-long mystery of who was Deep Throat? The mole who tipped off Washington Post columnists Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein to the burglary and subsequent cover-up at the Watergate Hotel was W. Richard Felt, former deputy director under J. Edgar Hoover and second in command at the FBI. It turns out Felt's moral compass kicked in just about the time Richard Nixon passed him over for his entitled position as Hoover's successor. Heroic? Indeed. (The remainder of this article can be read at http://www.nbeaujon.com/deep_throat.htm )

well, former criminal, he was pardoned by President Reagan.
Saw a clip of him looking right into the camera and saying "I am not Deep Throat". Honorable man.
As amember of a Federal Law Enforcement agency, wouldnt arrests and trials and stuff like that been the way to go if you knew of criminal activity?
Just wondering.
Reagan pardoned Felt early in his administration - and Nixon actually defended Felt during his trial Re: illegal wiretaps of Weathermen terrorists fo the 60's
I'm having a hard time working up a lather on the issue. Nixon was brought down by a crooked, lying FBI executive. Haven't read a liberal commentator yet who's even embarrassed by it.
Felts children have obviously not been told the entire truth.
Somebody on FOX said the guy was a former democrat who switched to repub during the Reagan years.
Disgruntled employee alert.
I know he was a former democrat, but I thought he switched during the Ford or Carter years, just prior to President Reagan.
I honestly think President Reagan thought he was deep throat, some of the guys around Reagan suspected it was Felt.
However, President Reagan did not like Nixon.
THANK YOU! That's exactly what I was about to post, yet better!
Thats actually the big question.
The phrase President Reagan used was "Full and unconditional" but he meant it in regards to the breakins and wiretaps (interestly, the guys Felt were after, recieved their pardons from Clinton) but more then a few people have asked about it.
I posted President Reagans statement earlier about the pardon, but I don't know how wide and far a pardon goes.
I now have one (only one) lawyer's opinion that the Reagan clemency would not apply. I'd love to see this pressed, but it would be hard to do it.
lol.
You are exactly right; he was never charged OR accused of anything related to Watergate, so that pardon would do nothing to help him out here, if anything at all could be charged!
Hero my white Southern butt.
You may want to take a look at some of the stuff posted today on America the Right Way thread ... Lots of opinion and info about this, and links.
G'nite now, to all...
