There used to be a website (in South Africa) that covered diseases. I can't remember what it was. I think it started charging for access and I dropped it.

WHO seems to have a habit of repeating what the Angolan Health Minister says.

Huh? I'm not trying to insult you. With so many other hemorrhagic diseases out there, I'm curious as to why you are interested in Marburg. Simply because it's been in the news the past two months or so? Back in the late '70's our family had to cancel a trip to Zaire (the old Belgian Congo, now simply called Congo, I believe) because of a Marburg outbreak. I was bummed, but saw some of both west and east Africa.

If you find anything like that again, free, it would be invaluable.

Oh, I didn't take your question as insulting, at all--not in the least.

No, your question, instead, really made me think--I'm not sure I can even answer it.

I think I had a feeling, when I first heard about it, that this Marburg outbreak would be historic, and different. And so it is...

I'm not Judith Anne, so I can't speak for her.

However, I recommend you take the time to go back and read Thread #1 in it's entirety and maybe you'll get a better indication for what is going on here, rather than jump in here in the middle and demand personal answers on somebody's motivation. This is an evolving situation here with very serious implications not only for the poor souls in Angola but also the rest of us living in comfort staring at our computer screens.

More than "Judith Anne" are interested in this subject and have contributed a lot of relevant detail, but she has taken the effort to shepherd the subject which is her wont to do. As a nurse, she has some medical background and is no doubt interested in this for professional reasons. And like the rest of us, she has personal reasons.

I assume you are here to learn. But if you are here to carp instead, please find another thread to antagonize. The rest of us are busy and interested in what is being discussed, not in why somebody is discussing it.

WHO seems to have a habit of repeating what the Angolan Health Minister says.

Maybe so, but they can't even get their "stories" straight:

According to the MOH, "Marburg haemorrhagic fever, which has already killed more than 350 people, is under control..."

WHO says "The outbreak that has killed 334 people is under control."

It's like the Keystone Kops, except that it's so tragic.

My observation has been the opposite. It is very obvious that the Angolan Health Minister doesn't have very good communication with WHO or anyone else. As of today, the Angolan Health Minister, Sebastiao Veloso, says there have been 350 (See #11) deaths and WHO is saying 335 (See #19). This lack of communication is freaky, deliberate or not.

Thanks, but there wasn't anything wrong with the question.

It's a good one, and I really can't answer it. Please, no need to fuss with each other--we need both of you.

Thank you, Judith Anne... I was worrying over how much time it was going to take me to find out what was going on with this virus, without this thread and the interesting people who post on it.

You are being much kinder and more patient than I, "Judith Anne". Thank you.

"Endeavor", forgive me if I have given you any offense. I fear I am being a bit prickly today. Please join the discussion and continue to contribute. It's not my intention to drive you off.
