Agreed to a point. It may not be the main issue whether or not Felt smoked, or what he drank. What is more of a concern is that they claimed DT was a White House insider and that DT did this out of idealism. The same for their comments on Chuck Colson. They were inventing the myth that Felt did what he did solely for altruistic reasons - and it's reasonable to conclude they knew otherwise
What is most concerning is that Felt abused the power of his office. I'm not excusing what President Nixon did - and I won't excuse what Felt did.
In today's time, what happened in the Nixon Whitehouse would merit 'nary a concern - if the officeholder was a Democrat.

It's all about the money, dude. Felt's family wants to cash in on a big book deal before he loses all of his memory and passes away -- and before Woodward has a chance to cut them out of the cash. Almost everything these days is about self-promotion and cashing-in. What'll be really interesting is how the already-clear tension between the Felts and Woodwards over who'll enjoy the benefits will play out. Could get ugly...and public.

Most everyone in high ranking positions during that period in the FBIs history was pro Hoover. No doubt, most of the agents were too.
Wrong. Felt spoke to reporters because that was part of his position. He wasn't a street agent, but someone out in the open, in the light, where reporters were naturally drawn and speaking to them wasn't too out of the norm. What may have been said or exchanged was a different story.
His dislike for phones was well known by only a few. He had been inside the White House consulting Nixon on wiretapping, later Felt became paranoid and thought the WH was tapping hiw own phones. Actually, he wasn't the only one that suspected this.

Woodward has always been a bottom feeder.............. rifling through Kissinger's briefcase on trips to the far East for the Joint Chiefs.
