Amman - The Jordanian authorities are questioning the relatives of a woman murdered by one of her siblings in a so-called "honour crime", the Jordan Times reported on Tuesday.
The victim, a divorced mother of four, was stabbed to death on Friday and one of her brothers turned himself in to the police claiming he killed her "to cleanse his family's honour," the newspaper said.
The suspect said he murdered the woman "after seeing a videotape that was left on his doorstep, allegedly showing his sister with a strange man," an official told the newspaper.
The woman's father, mother and another brother were detained for questioning on suspicion of luring the victim to the family home in a Amman neighbourhood where she was murdered.
"Initial official interrogations indicated that the four plotted the woman's murder," the official said.
Momen Hadidi, the head of the national institute for forensic medicine, told the Jordan Times that six women were murdered in Jordan in so-called "honour crimes" since the start of the year.
At least 19 women lost their lives in honour killings in the conservative Muslim kingdom last year, according to the Jordan Times.
"We need to work on all levels to stop these crimes and at the same time not to show the perpetrators as heroes," said Hadidi, who also heads the Jordanian Family Protection Project.

These people certainly have a perverse sense of the meaning of honour--and everything else for that matter.
This brother--and his co-conspirators--could not have dishonoured themselves and their family more utterly. I'm sure that's beyond their comprehension.

There was a surprising turn of events Tuesday in the 'honor killing' trial of a Cleveland State University student. NewsChannel5 reports that the judge removed himself from the case.
Musa Saleh is on trial for allegedly killing his cousin Methel Dayem. Saleh and another cousin Yezen Dayem allegedly murdered the young Lakewood woman because she was turning her back on Arab family customs.

It is a family torn asunder, a wound that may not be healed in this world, according to relatives of Methal Dayem, the 21-year-old Lakewood woman shot and killed in an alleged "honor killing" last year.
"All of you go to hell!" screamed a furious Nebal Ali, the slain woman's sister, moments after a judge on Tuesday declared her cousin Yezen Dayem, of Cleveland, innocent of the murder.
"You guys are murderers!" she screamed. "There's no justice! The world comes to an end when murderers get off.
I really do not under stand Islamc Honor killings, they obviously lost there Honor long ago. Killing a family member now will not redeem Honor they have not had for generations.
Honor is so far removed from Islam, they obviously do not comprehend it anyway.
