This is odd, because I think a boycott may be the only thing that has a chance.
I read that she claims it was planted, but even if it wasnt this sentence is absurd imo.
"Mr Percy yesterday warned that Corby risked having her jail term extended to life if the defence team appealed."
The assertion of all tyrants: "God chose me to own you"
One, but not the only, reason we have trial by jury.
"The Indonesian Government yesterday backed the prosecution bid to toughen Corby's 20-year jail sentence for smuggling 4.1 kilograms of marijuana into Bali's airport last October."
How much is that in our measurement?
don't do the crime.....
Usually I am suspicious of claims that the drugs were planted, but her claim along with the fact that there is no evidence of drug use in her past is rather convincing.
She should thank God she wasn't caught doing this in Singapore or she'd have already swung by the neck. Some people just don't get that what their culture/laws might consider "no big deal" is a big deal to others, and vice versa. Don't screw around on foreign soil.
1 kg = 2.205 lb so about 9 lb
About nine pounds.
It doesn't appear that she will survive more than a few years in this prison, so I don't think she has much to lose by appealing.
Another reason why you'll never catch me in a non first-world nation.
The Caribbean is okay, you can basically buy your way out of made up charges there.
Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. This stupid brat must have been aware of a very high profile Indonesian case in which two young men about her age were BEHEADED for smuggling drugs into Indonesia, despite the best efforts of the government to halt their execution. Unlike Western countries, these foreigners take their laws seriously and most of us who travel have been warned repeatedly that no matter where we come from, when we are in a foreign land we are under the laws of that land. Being a cute 20 year old surfer girl butters no parsnips when it comes to smuggling drugs.
And just what else would you expect the poor brat to say except "I was set up"? Perhaps she is not having fun in jail. But then again, perhaps the next girl who thinks she'll make a quick buck by smuggling drugs into Indonesia might take a few minutes to weigh the risk.
I'm sorry, I think anyone who goes to any of these godforsaken countries is out of their minds. That includes Mexico and all of Latin America, Jamaica, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Lebanon, any country in Africa. Sorry, that's just the way I've come to feel.
"About nine pounds."
NINE lbs.?
WHoa ... that's allot.
So true, a lesson she has learned the hard way, very sad
Ditto.
I'd rather flush the money down the toilet than go to those countries.
It's her claim that the drugs were planted in her luggage in Australia, isn't that right? In that case, one would hope that competent investigators in Australia could find the real criminals, right? If they can't, it makes me doubt her story.
