In that case, one would hope that competent investigators in Australia could find the real criminals, right? If they can't, it makes me doubt her story.

makes her claim a bit suspicious.
You don't need to be a drug user to be a drug peddlar.

I also am not sympathetic to drug users who flout the law nor of people who intentionally break foreign government's laws and then whine about what happens to them, I don't know anything about the availability of marijuana in Bali but carrying 9 pounds of marijuana to Indonesia sounds like a case of carrying coals to Newcastle. That 9 pounds of dried weed would also make a sizable package, would she actually think she could get it through customs?
IMO her actual crime was failure to lubricate the right palm(s).
