A Pakistan Navy sailor was arrested in New York on Thursday after he allegedly sexually assaulted a US teenage girl in a public park. "They were talking in the park, he grabbed her, and he kissed her on the mouth. She struggled away and got help," The Nation quoted a New York Post report as saying.
The Pakistan Embassy confirmed the sailor's arrest, the paper said adding that currently he is being held at a precinct station.
"We have been informed of the arrest, and we are looking into the matter," the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Pakistan Embassy Mohammad Sadiq reportedly said.
According to the police, the 14-year-old girl is a student of a high school in Massachusetts.
Nadeem Ahmed, the accused sailor, was one among the 700 Pakistani seamen who had arrived in New York on May 25 to participate in Fleet Week Celebrations. A couple of days later, Nadeem had gone missing from the ship. A missing person's report was subsequently filed with the New York police. (ANI)

Yes. And change the circumstances....a little more secluded in the park, a little later, she a little weaker, he a little stronger...the outcome could certainly have been rape or worse. Hold him, charge him and if found guilty hand him his holy book and ship him off. But if his embassy helps to get him out with a promise to show up for trial (possible) you will never see him again.

For the rest of you: Where in the report does it say she was alone? It is possible her family/friends were distracted a few steps away. Where does it say that this was in Central Park? There are several public parks in NYC. Where does it say this happened at night? No time stamp was given. Where does her mode of dress appear? How do you know she wasn't dressed conservatively?
And finally, if a kiss is not unwanted sexual contact, I will happily walk up to your wives (all of them!) and kiss them passionately the next time I see them. They shouldn't mind.

Tut, tut, she dressed scandalously and got what was coming to her. That poor uncontrolled sailor had no choice but to give in to her potentially pre-pubscent feminine wiles.
Because that's certainly what it sounded like over here.
I went and looked through another few articles on the matter. This was in Central Park. However, this was at about 6:00 PM, which on the East Coast at the moment is fairly sunny. It was at 72nd street, well into the beautiful (and wealthy) areas of the Park. It also says they were talking when it happened.
I am guessing that the girl, like most her age, was excited and interested to talk to someone in uniform and did so, figuring that his military training would make him an exemplar of good behavior. Sadly, she was mistaken.
