Nine Inch Nails, MTV, and Bush

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The rock band Nine Inch Nails said on Friday it canceled plans to appear on next week's MTV Movie Awards after the network questioned the band's plans to perform in front of an image of President Bush.

The band was slated to perform "The Hand That Feeds," the first single from its latest album.

A Los Angeles Times review called the song "a warning against blind acceptance of authority, including that of a president leading his nation to war."

"We were set to perform 'The Hand That Feeds' with an unmolested, straightforward image of George W. Bush as the backdrop. Apparently, the image of our president is as offensive to MTV as it is to me," Nine Inch Nails' leader Trent Reznor said in a statement posted on the band's Web site.

MTV said in a statement: "While we respect Nine Inch Nails' point of view, we were uncomfortable with their performance being built around a partisan political statement. When we discussed our discomfort with the band, their choice was to unfortunately pull out of the Movie Awards."

MTV is owned by Viacom Inc., the corporate parent of broadcast network CBS.

I have a friend who used to play at the same shows as Trent Reznor before Reznor got big with NIN. He said that Trent is related to the Reznor air condtioning company here in PA, and that Trent always had the newest and fanciest gadgets. Just a rich boy who never had to make it on his own financially.

NINE INCH NAILS LYRICS

The Hand That Feeds

You're keeping in step
In the line
Got your chin held high and you feel just fine
Because you do
What you're told
But inside your heart it is black and it's hollow and it's cold

Just how deep do you believe?
Will you bite the hand that feeds?
Will you chew until it bleeds?
Can you get up off your knees?
Are you brave enough to see?
Do you want to change it?

What if this whole crusade's
A charade
And behind it all there's a price to be paid
For the blood
On which we dine
Justified in the name of the holy and the divine

Just how deep do you believe?
Will you bite the hand that feeds?
Will you chew until it bleeds?
Can you get up off your knees?
Are you brave enough to see?
Do you want to change it?

So naive
I keep holding on to what I want to believe
I can see
But I keep holding on and on and on and on

Will you bite the hand that feeds you?
Will you stay down on your knees?

Repeating over and over to the drudged mindless masses, "Will you bite the hand that feeds?" might have been sedition long ago. How we miss the days of yesteryear...

Is that song about our president or the enemy? These idiots have no clue how dangerous the enemy is. What idiots!

Just a rich boy who never had to make it on his own financially.

The same can be said of most of the politicians on the national stage. Can you say Gore? Can you say Bush?

Sigh. Bush at least, does not pretend to be an angst filled man barely able to hold his life together, as Reznor does. Nice try anyway.

The stunning ignorance endlessly displayed by the mindless left never fails to amaze.

First, these idiots should demand that people get INFORMED!

Arrogant ignorance reigns supreme in those lyrics.

I can't believe out in front of the PO today the bleeding heart libs STILL had signs up with: NO BLOOD FOR OIL.

They really are moronic idiots.

This must be some sort of nationwide *action*. They have been showing up outside our PO in all sorts of weather for months....all two of them. Same signs. Zero impact. Everyone walks around them, oblivious.

They should perform the song in Europe with EU flag and pics of EC elites in the background... Perform it in the countries that agree with the European constitution without referendum...

You can sigh all you want. Feigned ansgst wasn't the original point.

The point remains that the most successful of our national politicians come from extremely rich families where they never had to work a day in their life (not even to raise the point about how these families acquired their money). They survive solely on the public teat and political favors.

So if you choose to rail against Reznor because of his privileged upbringing try and be consistent instead of picking and choosing who are the good rich spoiled boys and the bad rich spoiled boys.

Face it. America has royalty just like every other country. Our kings and queens are the select families that control our political process. Once again, the Gore-Bush race is a good a case in point, perhaps one of the best in the history of the Republic.

Trent is from Mercer, after all. His family owns a company that makes heaters (or is it air conditioners? I can never remember). You know, his former drummer, Chris Vrenna, is from Erie. He and Alice from the Brady Bunch are most of our claim to fame - aside from the snow.

I am sure disheartened I just couldnt wait to hear their performance. Now what will I do that day. This man was going to perform in front of the picture of a man who was offensive to him.

****Apparently, the image of our president is as offensive to MTV as it is to me," Nine Inch Nails' leader Trent Reznor said in a statement posted on the band's Web site. ****

I wish Mr. Reznor all the best and as they say in the entertainment industry "Break a Leg" MF.

Sack-itch, the point was that he is a fraud. Try this out for size - if a guy makes a career about pretending that he is something he is not, that makes him a fraud. The point was obviously above your head.

Sigh.
