Why I'm joining the GOP -- Leaving the left for fun and profit
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 5/29/5 | Jeff Gillenkirk

Posted on 05/28/2005 11:35:42 PM PDT by SmithL

After a lifetime voting for and working for Democratic candidates and independents, I'm finally going to make the switch and become a Republican.

The reasons are many, not the least of which is age. I turned 55 recently and, having lived more than half my life, I can't afford to worry anymore about the other guy. It's time for me.

As a Republican, I can now proudly -- indeed, defiantly -- pledge to never again vote for anyone who raises taxes for any reason. To hell with roads, bridges, schools, police and fire protection, Medicare, Social Security and regulation of the airwaves.

President Bush has promised to give me more tax cuts even though our federal government owes trillions of dollars to its creditors. But that's someone else's problem, not mine. Republicans are about the here and now, and I'm here now.

As a Republican, I can favor exploiting the environment for everything she's got. No need to worry about quaint notions like posterity and natural legacy. There are plenty of resources left for everyone, and if we don't use them, someone else will.

. . . Jeff Gillenkirk was a speechwriter for former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo. He lives in San Francisco. Contact us at insight@sfchronicle.com.

How many "starving" children are in homes that have cable television, cell phones, and carton a week smokers?

Priorities.

For years I clung to the idea that the foundation of a democratic society was our implied social contract, each of us committing some level of personal sacrifice to the common good of all.

And, they are very willing that YOU sacrifice to pay for all of the freebies THEY decide to give out.

And, of course, no mention of who pays for the corruption of SOME who want to CHEAT the government to steal some of the funds that THEY decided WE must pay to the common good of all.

I don't mind paying for the children - it is the adults that chap me.

Especially the adults getting sexual enhancement drugs through Medicaid. I just don't believe I have to pay for sexual drugs for all.

Let's not forget how that also applies to this global warming hogwash. The left has created a superstition, almost a religion, based on the belief that its OUR FAULT. Typical elitism.

San Francisco is a dying city. Possibly even a dead city. This is just a reflex.

I was under the impression that Mr. Cuomo was pretty articulate for a liberal - maybe he keeps this guy around as a bad example.

He's not.

Are you sure you aren't mixing them up with the Kennedys?

One of their guys was featured in a Movie ("Quiz Show").

Mario Cuomo had one gift, to sound like he had no clue but know what was right and wrong (and liberalism was right, even though, he himself couldn't say why).

Thats part of the reason former VP and former Senatoral Candiadate Mondale hates him so much.

Show me a starving kid in America, and I'll show you a kid whose parents are preventing them from getting a meal.

Your liberals were smarter then the ones I met.

I tried the same arguement (granted, these folks are just nuts).

There answer.

"The homeschooled ones, without government, how do you know they are fed properly?".

After awhile, you learn, don't argue with the insane, whatever facts they lack, a fairy tail they will substitute (see dybold or diebold or whatever).

Liberal devotee of buggery, perhaps?

That's where we differ. I don't believe in letting them go with any dignity left, then I blame them for making me chase them so hard to cut through their fairy tales.

It ain't pretty, but they think twice before regurgitating the mindless drivel they formerly expected to be praised for spouting.

It sounds like your talking about people who have been mislead or lied to or are simply misguided.

I'm talking about the true insane.

If a guy is nuts, and needs therapy, then his politics is a cover, I can seperate a lunatic from his poilitics (unlike air america which will give him an interview and then edit it).

Some of these guys, when given facts, won't accept them, because its "part of the conspiracy", in their eyes, its always part of a conspiracy. If its an idiot, I have no problem setting them straight with facts, if its a lunatic, then facts mean nothing, since, these same folks would also believe you if told them you were Karl Roves illegitmate child.

For the record, I'm not encouraging you, but I should tell you, there is alot of good money to be made off of telling liberals fairy tale conspiracy theories, just give them a taste, demand money for more, and then wait, they will pay.....:-) Not that I ever exploited them for money...cough cough, Bev Harris, cough cough.
