Nashville -- Powerful state Sen. John Ford, now under house arrest as he awaits trial in a federal corruption case, has resigned, according to a letter read Saturday by the lieutenant governor.

"I plan to spend the rest of my time with my family clearing my name," Ford said in a letter read by Lt. Gov. John Wilder to the Senate.

Ford, a member of the Senate for more than 30 years, was arrested Thursday as part of a two-year FBI sting operation nicknamed "Tennessee Waltz."

"Don't be silly - this was a big favor to Harold Ford Jr.'s senate ambitions"

Jr. never had a chance to be senator to begin with. He has absolutely no support outside his congressional district. John has brought down the Ford machine in Memphis, to be replaced by an equally corrupt organized crime family, no doubt

"I plan to spend the rest of my time with my family clearing my name,"

He had better plan on living long and prospering then.

This is the death knell for the rest of the accused. Had I been one of those crooks my defense would have been, "If John Ford is guilty, then I'm guilty."

John Ford would not have been convicted of having "Ford" as a last name in Memphis. I am very surprised to see him resign. I thought he would pull the entrapment-race card from the deck and march onward.

"I think we could safely say, "Hello Senator Ed Bryant". Bryant prosecuted member of the Ford family during the 1980's. He'll take down another Ford in the Senate race next year"

I'd love to say "Hello Sen. Ed Bryant" too. But it will probably be Van Hillary. Jr never had a chance in this to begin with

Me, I'm tickled pink...I was redistricted into ford's district. After being represented by a REPUBLICAN senator who actually works at his job it was a true let down.

I was dancing with my darling to the Tennessee Waltz
When an old friend I happened to see
I introduced him to my racket
And while they were dancing
my "friend" pulled his badge and took my freedom from me.

Van Hillary and Bryant are two great conservatives running in the Senate race. I hope they don't split the vote and enable Corker to win. We don't need moderates like Corker in the Senate.

Van Hillary would have been the Governor instead of Bresden if he didn't take East TN for granted in 2002. It was disturbing that a RAT has able to make inroads into East TN like Bresden did. Right now, I preferred if Van Hillary run for the TN-04 to knock off Lincoln Davis.

Re John Ford keeping two houses. In each of those houses he keeps two women and two separate batches of children. And neither house is in his Senatorial district.

And the Dim's have been riding DeLays rear???? Good grief! They should stop throwing stones out of their glass houses!!

On the contrary, this will speed up the rate of stone throwing.

In fact, the Democrats are so vile, that I expect this man to show up on the Sunday talk show circuit complaining about Bush's ethics.

And the Republicans are so spineless, I expect them to apologize for Bush.

No mention by the AP that he's a Democrat.

What liberal bias?

Remember the story of the blind man who years ago claimed he could tell whether a basketball player was black or white based upon how the play-by-play announcer described how the individual played?

Now we can do the same with the media.

No kidding. I read the whole AP story and two Senators were referred to as Republicans but not a peep about the party (Democratic)of the actual perp. Unbelievable bias.

I wonder if they'll apologize for him giving 50 mil to the terrorist scum, Abbas.

This same story was in my local paper yesterday and not only did it not mention the D word they cut out the lines about the Republicans bringing ethics charges...
