Because of Wal-Mart's inadequate wages and benefits, Wal-Mart employees are eligible for $2.5 billion in Federal assistance, which comes from your tax dollars.

You mean the mom 'n' pop capitalism (oh please, can the left finally kill the mom and pop crap?) that in most small towns were the RICHEST folks around and owned the grocery and other stores like Western Auto, Sears catalouge store, etc. that had a HUGE markup on everything?
Again, my life experience trumps your BS crap you got indoctrinated with. I worked in the biggest grocery store in a 3,800 town in high school. We had HUGE markups on things like toiletries, beef, etc. Wal-Mart came in around 1975. Did we go out of business? HECK NO!
We thrived. Competition does that. Did our markup go down. Yes. Thus we didn't get $2 for toothpaste anymore when it really cost $1. Besides, we only got that when people didn't buy it 35 miles away in a much bigger city, Ft. Smith, AR, where they had more stores like K-Mart.
I find it funny none of this crap you peddle was around then K-Mart ruled the world with their "low prices".
I go back to that little town in Arkansas sometimes that now has 5,000 people and their is the same Wal-Mart, the same grocery I worked at, the same stores that were there in 1975 PLUS a Sonic, a Taco-Tico, a KFC/Taco Bell, a Pizza Hut, etc. Not one....NOT ONE of the businesses I grew up with are gone. Even the little old drug store on the corner of Main and Third street.
You're kidding me? Of course they don't give a rat's ass about their employees, but pretend they do when they send them off to AA meetings because it's discrimination if they do what they probably would like to do, fire them.
I still maintain it is immoral not to pay a living wage. Satisfied employees work better and are less likely to steal from their employers.
Wal Mart has that all figured out though. They watch their employees like a hawk. Don't think they don't. I think they have bought off Paul Harvey. But it used to be that way when I worked for a department store. You could only go out one door and have all your packages checked. Meanwhile, government employees furnish home offices with staplers, paper, pens, pencils, you name it, from the supply room. My boss was a bad example. Fortunately, my conscience kicked in, but not before I helped myself to a couple of pens.
I made the amazing discovery when I worked for a company that I could ask if it would be all right to take home some used desk folders and was given permission. I felt a lot better about myself than if I had sneaked them out the door. And I wasn't paid all that well.
I know. I forgot to add /sarcasm after my post! lol
Actually jobs like Walmart would only support an individual, most likely living at home with their elderly parents or shaking in an apartment with others. It may support a one job couple, but they would be at poverty level, unless they were retired on pensions. I honestly don't know how anyone in todays world could live on 300 bucks a week.
Hey, I can only call 'em as I see 'em.
I see any socialist idea as a threat to MY dream of success. I take threats like that personally.
And no, I ain't always nice about it.
You're a nanny stater. That means you're basically wanting someone to dictate crap like this to business.
The state has NO PLACE in business, period. I want laissez-faire law of the jungle capitalism, like the kind that built this great nation.
Before you socialists started with Wilson's illegal income tax and Federal Reserve, then that Communist traitor Roosevelt made it institutional with his Trotskyite New Deal.
People like YOKU are enablers to the destruction of our nation. All because you use your hearts instead of your brains.
You're using a typical LIBERAL gambit of using emotion-based arguments.
Read Hayek and mises, then come back. Until then, take your Marxism and sit on it.
When exactly did you go insane?
Who hurt you so bad you live this life of unmitigated anger? Are you John Kerry?
"Companies like Wal-Mart give free enterprise and capitalism a bad name"

Not so! Companies like Walmart prove that capitalism has no equal in improving people's lives... Just think where Sam Walton was before he started up his little store.
It sounds like you and your union mobster comrades can't stand the thought of people willing to work there and the rest of us free to shop there. A little class envy perhaps?
And it steals pens.
And it thinks every business is big brother that checks packages.
I'm starting to think this total sicko is living in the Ukraine or is definately from some kind of Russian decendants.
Because it's a stupid question. I wasn't the one who said it was not logical. I was the one who said wages are tied to the cost of living. We aren't there yet in most parts of the country.
That's funny. Is Lee Iacocca unemployed? Are psychiatrists unemployed? Are lawyers unemployed? Are car wash owners unemployed? Are resort and fantasy land ceo's unemployed?
Don't be ridiculous.
I smell class envy now.
You know when you be smokin' dat KILL, you're supposed to share......so don't BOGART
"I wasn't the one who said it was not logical."
So you think a $100 minimum wage is logical?
"That's funny. Is Lee Iacocca unemployed? Are psychiatrists unemployed? Are lawyers unemployed? Are car wash owners unemployed? Are resort and fantasy land ceo's unemployed?"
What are you talking about? Your posts aren't even coherent anymore.
I can not believe your horrendous elitism........no wonder you are in favor of the "living wage" premise.
Let me tell you something. I was born, raised, and educated in NYC, I worked on Wall Street, in Greenwich Village, and on Park Avenue and one of the happiest days of my life was when I got a job that allowed me to move out of there.........and that was nearly 23 years ago.
Tell me that when it's time to collect your social security. Tell me that if you lose your job and are hungry.
I think people who don't or won't work deserve to starve
Well, Paul said something like that, too. But he was a capitalist. He made and sold tents.
Get over it.
No.
And keep yopur state and hands outta MY wallet.
I don't want anything out of your stinking wallet.
I'll shop at Wally's all I want, just to tick you people off.
Only as long as you have a job and money in that stinking wallet.
You don't piss me off. All my family members shop there. The rich ones and the poor ones. Be sure to give the greeters a warm smile and treat them nice, unlike the way you are talking to me like I am some kind of low life because I happen to care about people who have to work in that living prison with the fluorescent lights with only daylight coming from the front doors that open electronically so people can get in and spend their money faster. I'll bet you whisk right by them on your way to stuff your cart with stuff that will end up in a garage sale or the city landfill in a few years.
Now you are really being funny.
You aren't answering because once you follow it's logic, you must acknowledge that you are wrong. I ask you one more time:
Why is a $100 minimum wage not logical?
Answer: Because everybody who makes less then $100 would simply become unemployed and many of the businesses that use such employees would shut down.
Now stay with me here...
Why is a $17 minimum wage not logical?
Answer: (fill in this space)
We'll see how that plays on judgement day if there ever is one. Until then it up for grabs according to Darwinism, the strong devour the weak.
Yes they are.
So, if wages go up, what happens to the cost of living??
Take it to the religion board.
We're talking Wal-Mart, not salvation.
Yes I have.
<p.Meanwhile, if you don't want to work at Wal-Mart, dont' work there.
