US Army Reserves 1980 to 1993.
Captain, Ordnance Corps Branch
Spent my entire service in the 78th Division (INF-OSUT) Edison NJ. Trained to run a forward area maintenance unit, but ended up in a unit that will train draftees in a general mobilization from Basic Training and continue into Infantry School at same location. Spent many annual training in Fort Benning GA, and Fort Dix NJ. Officially in a time of war, I could be pulled from my training company and sent to theater to replace a Maintenance Officer KIA/WIA. Unofficially if the war gets real bad, the Basic Training Company will go into the war as a replacement infantry company, and guess who ends up being the Infantry Company Commander. ME. But I am the lucky generation. When I was commissioned in 1980 we faced prospect of war with Iran (which never came), survived the Cold War and was not called up for the first Gulf War (war ended too fast). Got married in 1991 and left the USAR in 1993. Now it is the younger generation and possibly my children who must learn to fight. The WOT is going to be a long war, and I pray to God grant the young protection and victory.

Democrat Underground welfare monkeys are looking into this thread. Guess they should have waited for more vets to check in before acting all high and mighty.

As the name implies. I was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S.A.F. Patrol Dog handler in SAC during the mid 1970's. Enjoyed my time there.

Oh, I love these ones.

USN 1989-1993 VFA-83 Rampagers

NAS Cecil Field. While deployed CV-60 USS Saratoga.

Gulf of Aqaba and the Red Sea During Desert Shield/Desert Storm.

The ship I was attached to had served the longest afloat until the ship that met GWB off the coast came back. They hold the record now.

I'm thinking of going into the National Guard and joining a Light Infantry outfit.

Thanks for letting me get to know something of my fellow Freepers.

I would have thought that thier would be more of us, ;)

Arioch7 out.

There are many more military types here, but they're currently off at the bar and not reporting in, the slackers.

Ah, we taught 'em well.

Scrolled through the threads and it ruined my appetite for the rest of the day. However, there was one poster who accused those posting here of lying and a reply to him/her/it was ".....or exaggerating". They had to bring up an old thread recalling something to the tune of "400+" posts and being proud of it. I wonder how many were the "thanks for your service" types? I recall one here that had many posts, but don't remember how many. It wasn't long ago though. Anyway, this makes only the second time I have been tempted to check out DU, now to go take a shower. Cheers!

Yeah, I noticed the DUmmies are too busy calling us "posers" and "chicken-hawks" to notice our list is surpassing theirs.

Due to the differences between the 2 sites I think it is easier for their vets to see the thread to check in (their thread keeps moving up the list). Actually I didn't know about our thread until I saw them mocking it over there while I was "behind enemy lines".
