Tonopah Test Range, Nellis AFB NV (1988-1991) - 4450th Tactical Group, 415th Aircraft Maintenance Unit, Jet Engine Maintenance. F-117A Oh, horse puckey!! Friend of mine was up there working weapons and he told me that all you guys did was play pinochle.
Of course, the program was still deep black when I was asking him what he did.

We were usually too drunk to play pinochle! That being said, it was one of the best assignments I had. They really tried to make it livable. Pool, two lane bowling alley, weight room, bar, pool tables, etc. The food was always top notch, but we could never figure out why the ravens always disappeared when it was fried chicken day! ;-)
Cheers!

I tell people that being a jet engine mechanic was the best job I ever had. Had to pinch myself to realize I was getting paid to do that.
Speaking of chowhalls, did you ever hear about Nellis serving horsemeat a few times? Seems the west coast contractor for the military substituted it a few times. I never noticed a difference myself.
