Prayer request for my nephew, Alex
Self | 5/25/05 | M0sby

Hello all,
I wanted to ping you tonight for a prayer request for my sister.

You may remember that she and her husband lost their firstborn, Samantha, during labor last July.
Here is the thread that I pinged you with last summer:

Prayer Request for a Tiny Angel

Well, blessedly, she is pregnant again.  Almost 4.5 months (23 weeks to be exact).  And it is a BOY!
However, their are some issues surrounding the baby that I would be grateful for some prayers about.

1st of all, their is only one artery in the umbilical cord, where their should be two.  This, I am told, increases the risk of stillbirth, mental retardation and the like.

Secondly, during the last ultrasound they were unable to verify that the left chamber of the heart is the correct size.  However, this could be due to the early gestational age as the ultrasound was at only 19 weeks.

At any rate...her follow-up ultrasound is tomorrow at 1:00 Eastern time.

I would so very much appreciate prayers for the well being of this child.  It is heartbreaking to watch my only sibling hold on to her sanity by the thinnest of threads.

Thank you as always for your prayers~

MOsby

Heavenly Father, we return to thank You that You have again blessed this couple with Your Very Breath ... sustain them, O God, in the midst of uncertainty ... may Your hand be mightily upon this little one, and by the Power of the Holy Spirit, may he continue to prosper unto the day when You call him forth in joy and in health. May it be thus, O Lord, may it be thus, in the Name of Jesus, we pray, Amen ...

Thanks M0sby, your nephew and his parents have my prayers.

Sometimes I think routine ultrasounds cause more problems than they detect. Sure, ultrasound can be a wonderful diagnostic tool in some cases; but too often misreadings cause such terrible anxiety that I think the pregnancy is more threatened by the anxiety, than by any physical problem!

I refused all ultrasounds during my pregnancies. I was resolved to accept whatever I got, boy or girl, "perfect" or not. (Of course I'm talking only about routine ultrasounds here --if there had been any indication of a problem that an ultrasound might've helped resolve, then I would've gotten one.)

Doctors have to order routine ultrasounds, because doctors are forced to be in CYA mode and to do all kinds of unnecessary tests (for fear of future lawsuits if they don't).

But for most pregnancies that appear to be progressing normally, I believe it can be a responsible choice to skip them.

I know what you mean...
I think that they may have been of the same mind were things routine.
But, since their first child has already died from a placental abruption, the doctors wanted to make sure that the placental attachment looked normal.
The irony is, the placenta looks fine, but their are these other issues.

I guess we will wait and see today...and pray.

Thanks for your thoughts and your prayers...

Yes, my reply was just a kind of generalized blathering! --of course you family would want to make sure that the problem they had the first time around wasn't happening again.

It's just that I had so many problems with medical types doing all kinds of unecessary pokings and tests, that I nearly miscarried from that alone. For my last two babies, I threw most of the whole "pre-natal care" routine overboard, especially during the early stages.

Though my experience with those last babies was far better than it had been with my first, I can only thank God, I suppose, that all went well!

So ignore my rantings and accept my prayers!

May God hold this child and his family close to Him now and give them peace and strength. May He guide the doctors and nurses who will care for them, and bring the baby to a safe delivery and healthy life, in Jesus' name.

M0sby, I'm praying for your sister and her husband and her medical team. Please, dear Lord, allow a healthy baby to be born into this excellent family that is waiting for it with open arms and hearts.
