A Yellowknife city councillor calls plans to hold a Heterosexual Day as well as Gay Pride Day an embarrassment to the city.
Councillors learned at Tuesday night's council meeting that the mayor had proclaimed June 10 as Gay Pride Day.
The mayor then proclaimed June 9 Heterosexual Day, following a proposal from Coun. Alan Woytuik.
Coun. Kevin O'Reilly called the move an embarrassment to the city and a mockery of a legitimate request.
Woytuik defended the proclamation, saying the community should recognize heterosexuals and homosexuals.
"I feel that recognizing the contributions of heterosexuals is just as legitimate as recognizing the contributions of gay and lesbian communities, so I don't feel there's any reason for anyone to object to this particular proclamation."
Gay and lesbian groups will celebrate
"We thought every day was heterosexual day," said Don Babey of OutNorth, a group that represents Yellowknife gays and lesbians and that made the initial request for Gay Pride Day."
"Will the city partner Black History Month in February with White Heritage Month later in the year?" Babey asked.
"Will the days and weeks marking physical ailments, such as heart disease and strokes, be paired with an equal number of days that will celebrate good health?"
Babey says his group will celebrate Gay Pride Day by passing out cake in front of Yellowknife's post office.
"Tell us where Heterosexual Day will be celebrated, and we'll be there," he said.

Blech on all special days based on one's personal sexual proclivities.
There's nothing between Yellowknife and SD except a fence, and it blew down.
But they would respond, we can't help this behavior, we were born this way. Hell fire, this is why we have laws and moral codes, to prevent people doing any damn thing that pops into their heads, like stealing the neighbors car, etc.
You make several more good suggestions. We have to be inclusive in order to demonstrate our acceptance of diversity of human/animal behavior. Go figure. We live in a crazy world thanks to the diversity/perversity of liberals.

Yellowknife is way out in the boonies of Canada's Northwest Terretories. If the homosexual agenda has infected Yellowknife, there's not much hope for society. At least I got to live for a while during Western Civilization's peak before the downfall.
I do not agree. In spiritual/moral matters there is no democracy. It is enough if there were the ten righteous people is Sodom and Gomorrah for these cities to be saved.
If a few more people join the protest of this father in Lexington, Massachusetts, the evil can be defeated. For the evil to prevail it is enough that good people do nothing.
Due to the harsh weather, ther are probably some up there who will support a necrophilia day and defend their "right" to "a nice quiet evening". Tourists could go to the local tavern and order "a quick, cold one". Aaaarrrrgggggghhhhhhhh!

The question is, should Pride really be a factor in being attracted to someone?
