Guinea Pig Parachute Won't Lead To Cruelty Charges
19-Year-Old Already Paid Civil Fine
POSTED: 12:22 pm EDT May 25, 2005
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- An Indiana University student is cleared of animal cruelty charges after a December skydiving stunt involving a parachute and a guinea pig.
Nineteen-year-old David Feldscott was accused of taping a parachute to the rodent and sending it out an eighth-floor dorm window.
He and some friends told police they were planning to retrieve the guinea pig when it reached the ground, but that plan failed when the animal got stuck in a tree.
It was rescued and placed at a local animal shelter, where it acquired the name Noel since it was the holiday season.
The judge dropped the criminal charge against Feldscott because the student had already paid a $500 civil fine.

Auction Noel the guinea pig on eBay. I'm sure some PETA folks would pay top dollar.

,,, $500 is an outrage. What he was doing was ensuring the future safety of guinea pigs with the development of this parachute. It can't be clearer. What's wrong with judges?!!

Hmmmm? Wonder if there would be any legal problem over at the Gay Student Union if a gerbil got stuck somewhere?

Would they prefer that the kids didn't give the guinea pig a parachute?

I guess i'd better still stay in hiding after launching all those lizards in the clear capsule Estes Rockets when I was a kid. We never recovered a couple of them.

However, it's not cruel to starve a human animal to death, civilly or criminally. My thoughts exactly.....

Too funny. I sent up several grasshoppers in Estes rockets. Always used the C or D engines for the capsules I'd build.

If I knew what the statute of limitations were on offenses like this I would tell you how it came to be that our house cat learned to treat me with extreme deference and stay out of my way. But that was a very big parachurte and only a three story drop at a very serene rate.
I was only 12 at the time BTW.
