AUSTIN With more than $460,000 raised this year, Texas is second only to Sen. Hillary Clinton's home state of New York in funding the former first lady's bid for re-election.

"Hillary has some very good friends in Texas," said spokeswoman Ann Lewis. "She's very actively raising funds for her Senate re-election campaign, and we're appreciative that her friends in Texas have been able to help."
During the last two years, Texas has been the third-biggest source of campaign cash for New York's junior U.S. senator, according to federal contribution reports.
California, Florida, the District of Columbia, Maryland and Massachusetts round out the list of top Clinton re-election contributions for the first quarter.
In March, Clinton made stops in Dallas, Austin, Houston and McAllen.
"She's a rock star in any party," said Democrat Garry Mauro, who co-hosted a fundraiser in Austin that drew 500. "Oftentimes, I have to twist arms and trade favors to get people to come to fundraisers. But that's not the case when Hillary came."
Texas Republican Party Chairman Tina Benkiser said it is no surprise that Texas is a rich source of campaign cash for candidates from both parties.
"Democrats may raise money in Texas, but they don't win in Texas," she said.
A Dallas Morning News analysis of Clinton's fundraising for this year's first quarter found that South Texas accounted for one-third of the former first lady's Texas contributions, proving that the region is growing in economic clout and political importance.
Also, the analysis lists a number of influential Texans adding to the Clinton re-election contribution pool, including former Gov. Ann Richards; Luci Baines Johnson, daughter of the former president; and former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk.
No big deal. Every state has its fair share of RATS. And Texas is a big state.
Wrong.
Hillary has some very good friends in Austin. A totally different place from Texas.
It's local patriotism. Lone Star staters think Senator Clinton's ankles come from Texas.
I think Texans are looking for a candidate a little less pro-illegal-immigration.
At this point, Hillary is the best they've got.
Uhhhmmmmm....how does this prove anything other than South Texas has a lot of disillusioned democrats?
No doubt 95% of that money comes out of Austin. Probably within 5 miles of UT.
I was just about to scream...
Austin AIN'T *Texas*!
LOL
Texas has a lot of wealthy plaintiff's personal injury lawyers who bankroll the Democratic party.
And unfortunately Texas is so big that we've got lots of RATS. Most hide in the shadows knowing they'll get stepped on by elephants:)
LOL!
Shame on them...tell 'em to go home :)
Let them waste their money.
"Hillary has some very good friends in Austin. A totally different place from Texas."
Austin is full of people from California and other places that begin sentences with how wonderful it was where they came from.
This is good news. It means that Texas lefties see little point in funding candidates in their own state.
But for now, I ain't moving. Weather is good, lakes are beautiful, greenbelt in wonderful and the biking is unmatched.
Because of the hooves?
