ANNISTON, Ala. (AP) A ten-year-old Anniston boy is in a lot of trouble today after he reportedly punched a teacher after she demanded he remove a headband he wore in the school lunchroom.
Now police are getting involved and say the youngster could face felony assault charges.
The incident happened Monday at Tenth Street Elementary School.
Police said the teacher was treated for a bruise to her face.
No charges were immediately and the teacher has not decided whether to file a petition in juvenile court. The boy's name was withheld.
Anniston School Superintendent Sammy Felton had no comment, but said the matter will be dealt with in accordance with school policy.
baloney ... 'school policy' is what led to this. This teacher should file felony assault charges, and a civil claim against this child and his parents. take it to the hilt since the schools don't do anything anymore to protect teachers, teachers need to take it to court themselves.
If that were my child, he'd spend the next month wishing he could sit down without it hurting.
Amen to that! :)
Na, can't be!
Besides what about his self esteem? Facing charges will spoil all the work of building up his self esteem.
LOL!
Wonder what his parents are like.
The apples typically doesn't fall far from the tree.
Translation: The teacher will be fired for attempted theft of a headband. The child was merely defending himself and his property.
The little punk should be taken into public and thrashed soundly with a cane.
Would love to see this happen to all juvenile offenders. I think you would see a real change of attitude in the schools.
Not going to happen tho.. we don't want to bruise their fragile self esteem *pukes*
I can't wait for the demographics on this one, and when the single mother rises up in sheer disbelief that her little thug was accused of this.
I second the motion... sue the family.
Forget wasting time and money with stupid felony assault charges. Just give him some pops and expulsion.
I didn't read that in the article.
Where did you see that?
When I was 10 I knew doing something like this was the equivalent of parent assisted suicide.
He should have said he got the headband from his Mom who is serving in Iraq.
"Now police are getting involved and say the youngster could face felony assault charges. "
This is a loose application of the law of unintended consequences. The libs want to sit Johnny down, talk to him, reason with him, but respect his self esteem. *barf*
In my day, (good gosh am I really that old?), this kid would have been expelled. But it would probably have never gotten to this point. When he first mouthed off, (back in the day), he would have been hauled to the principal's office for a paddling. That would have straightened him out, and everyone could go on with their day.
Now little Johnny is going to go to court and it will be a big problem for all associated with this.
Collectively, we have lost our minds.
That is merely what I anticipate to be the case. Can't wait to find out if tradition holds.
Wonder what his parents are like - Think it was a comedy routine that basically went, the kid was so bad you wanted to slap his parents!
Needs to be tried, and if found guilty, hung. Period.
"He should have said he got the headband from his Mom who is serving in Iraq."
Or that he was wearing it for religious purposes!
Have we, as a society, spared the rod long enough?
Some of these leftist NEA teachers need a good whoopin' every now and then.
