Democratic leaders claimed victory yesterday over the deal senators cut regarding filibusters of judicial nominees, while most Republicans said it violated their principles and conservative activists vowed retribution. "Our republic stands strong. Our Constitution is solid. Our flag flies over a nation that has reaffirmed its faith in freedom," said Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, while Sens. Edward M. Kennedy, Massachusetts Democrat, and Charles E. Schumer, New York Democrat, and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi praised the deal for averting a crisis. But while most Democrats crowed, the Congressional Black Caucus sounded a discordant note. "This deal is more of a capitulation than a compromise," said Rep. Melvin Watt, North Carolina Democrat and caucus chairman...
...Most Republicans were just as despondent about the outcome, though they saw a capitulation on the part of the seven Republicans who joined with seven Democrats to strike a deal. Under the terms, the seven Democrats pledged to grant up-or-down votes on three nominees and to use restraint with filibusters in the future in exchange for seven Republicans' pledge to vote against declaring the filibuster of judicial nominees unconstitutional. Sen. Christopher S. Bond, Missouri Republican, called it a "Band-Aid" that simply puts off a showdown, while Sen. George Allen, Virginia Republican, called it "a major disappointment on principle." "Ultimately, nothing has been settled when a vacancy arises on the U.S. Supreme Court," Mr. Allen said. Some of the seven Republicans were hearing from their constituents -- particularly Sen. John W. Warner of Virginia...
...Mr. Allen's office, meanwhile, received 500 calls as of yesterday afternoon, with the majority of the callers opposed to the deal.

NEWSFLASH FROM THE RADIO... FRISTS warning to democrats... "dont screw around with this compromise, WE WILL put the nuke back on the table, AND WE WILL USE IT!!!!!"
I heard him
I heard him
WE WILL put the nuke back on the table, AND WE WILL USE IT!!!!!
----
Talk is cheap -- only actions count, and that is ALL the Libs do understand.
Sorry, I double-clicked
Yes, im waiting for him to put this into action.
One of the goals of this was to gain time. When the rats start to block nominees again, Frist will start his kabuki dance over from the beginning.
Those vacancies will be filled by President Hillary, for whom the Republicans will roll over.
I agree with you!
Hearing these socialists use patriotic phrases makes me ill. What their true intentions are is the exact opposite of what Reid stated. These are the people that would like to rip apart the Constitution, bring down our flag, and are fighting to take away our freedoms every day. Those four senators are probably as big a threat to this country as many of our outside enemies.
What the hell is he talking about? I thought the self serving, platitudinous, blow-hard rantings of Senator Foghorn were just a cartoon.
Quick Rule - whenever Ted Kennedy "praises a deal," it was a bad deal for America.
They did.
You can bet the farm that if the Democrats went for it the end result will be good for Democrats and bad for Conservatives. I deliberately did not use the word "Republicans" because with the exception of 10 Republicans in both Houses of Congress, the "Republicans are more than happy to be both the whipping boys and butt boys of the Democrats.
Wow, I'm sure the Dems are shaking in their boots.
"I heard it too. But WHEN, for cryin' out loud?!"
The when is out of our control. It happens when the Democrats decide to filibuster, and a cloture vote to stop that filibuster fails. Only then. Timing (and whether it ever happens) is in the control of the Democrats.
At what point does it become acceptable to start advocating the over throw of the goverment, and the forceful RE-institution of our constitutional republic.?
The Republican party has become "Democrat Light".
Is there anyone in Ohio that wants to organize a dump Voinovich movement?
