ALBANY -- Edward Cox, a son-in-law of former President Richard Nixon, will file papers with election officials Wednesday, a first step in formalizing his candidacy against Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton in 2006.
Republican leaders have been seeking a challenger to defeat or at least damage Clinton in the Senate campaign, making her expected 2008 presidential bid more difficult.
"I am considering this run because New York needs a senator truly focused on solving the chronic problems that have driven too many jobs and too many of our children out of the state," Cox said in a news release being issued Wednesday.

Could you hope for a better Senator to come out of New York? Besides, even a RINO is better than "she we do not speak of"!!!
He also was a member of the Reagan White House too.
I just like the thought of him because he knows of her from her "Destroy Nixon" days. Who knows what he may have access to.
Doesn't sound as though he were in the vanguard of the Reagan Revolution.
From What I read he was a Reagan Aide, but he has a quiet public record in the Reagan Administration and there is not much written about it. I'm trying to find more info.
I'd be interested in what you find.
According to the National Center for Policy Analysis,
"President Ronald Reagan killed off President Jimmy Carter's U.S. Synthetic Fuels Corp. because it had become a symbol of government failure and waste -- but not before it had made about $1.5 billion in grants and guarantees."
The Washington Post reported in '83 that Cox was earning $67,200 a year at Synfuels, a not inconsiderable sum at the time.
I don't hate Edward Cox, but at least on the surface he doesn't appear to be much of a candidate. I've also seen the references to his being a Reagan aide, but suspect that may have more to do with the MSM wanting to paint him as a conservative.
I just don't want to see the Beast run unopposed. If she has to spend money against a challenger(no matter how awful)that's a good thing.
I'd be happy if a credible candidate emerged. Otherwise, the party line will be she's just so darn popular she won by a huge - or is that hugh? - landslide and that qualifies her to be prez.
You know, Nixon's other daughter married the grandson of Eisenhower - where does he live and is there any hope of him running for anything? Just because they're sons-in-laws doesn't make them guilty of anything. Hillary is guilty of a whole lot more than anything Nixon ever did, but she had the media covering her and Bubba from prosecution!
