If theres one Republican I see a benefit for after the filibuster compromise, it is George Allen. Allen has spoken forcefully on the issue, and beat Frist to the punch in calling for a vote on filibusters sooner rather than later. Though Allen was not seen as one of the major players on this issue, he has also been an unusually strong advocate for confirming John Bolton without delay. There is a growing sentiment from Beltway Buzz readers and many in the conservative movement that Allen is showing more leadership qualities in the Senate than the actual Majority Leader.
Like Frist, voters will judge how Allen responds to the compromise and what moves he makes in ensuring confirmation for Bushs future nominees. In the meantime, Allen has shown himself to possess the style of leadership most voters look for in their presidential nominees. Its far too early to make broad proclamations, but never too early to note progress.
Doesn't matter - that will never come up.
Liberals will force Allen to admit that Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson were good men (which they were). Once he says that, he will be branded a racist forever.
Don't you know that all Southerners were racist and Northerners were wise, abolitionists during the Civil War?
So did Ted Turner and Ed Markey (D-Mass). And Sheets Byrd was in Gettysburg.
That won't be an issue.
George Allen ping.
I like George Allen, Jr. also, seems to have gotten a strong sense of Right and Wrong as well as leadership from his dad, IMO, a Principled Leader, not common in an NFL coach.
Hahaha, all the Republicans have to do is show Robert KKK Byrd doing the same thing. It's a non-issue.
Allen is the only Rep who comes out of this looking really good...not at all surprising to me. He's on with Laura right now and sounding like a real leader. He's so impressive and with Condi as his VP...it's not even close! I've been calling this for months now and Allen is just helping me realize my choice is a really good one. I'm trying to remember one thing...we've been through so much and so many ups and downs but come out winning at the ballot box...I'm hanging in there. Allen is more brilliant as I type this message...Staying Positive!
1. It's been tried and didn't stick.
2. Allen knows his history far too well do get caught in that trap.
He is one of the few Politicians with the Gonads to tell it like it is. Don't have all the threads but try a search on here for Allen. One of the few Politicians I would actually actively campaign for.
If George Allen runs he will win. If he runs with Mike Steele he'll crush anybody the evil donkey puts up and help us grab more seats in both chambers. mcpain (media) Az and Frist are toast. If hair-gel from Neb. thinks he's in fat city because he took no stand, he's wrong too.

I fully intend on working for Allen in the '08 race, if he'll run. I think an Allen/Rice ticket (and yes I know what many of you think of Condi) would be a winner for many reasons.
I like Allen a lot. But let's not forget that he's a Senator. Senators haven't done too well recently in presidential elections.
I'll be looking for a strong, GOP Govenor to burst onto the scene.
But Allen would make a great choice.
That's exactly who I think should be on the ticket.
Allen/Rice in '08.
I'm in.
True, but...
1. He's a former Governor.
2. He'll be running against Hillary, also a Senator.
Sounds very good against what may be a Rodham/Obama ticket for the Dems. I do want to hear more strong talk and specific proposals from Allen (or any Republican candidate) on the borders. Her Heinous' all too obvious moves on this issue worry me and somebody has to counter them.
Allen was Virginia governor, he was term-limited out.
He's got the executive experience along with the Senate record.
I think the same about an Allen/Rice ticket. It just may pull a 30-50% African-American vote, enough to wipe out any remote chance for a Democrat victory and maybe removing the African-American lock-step devotion to the dems.
Probably in realtime also....not just the movie.
I just heard him on Laura Ingraham. He is unafraid to speak out; he gets MY vote.
