Allen Fallout
Beltway Buzz (NRO) ^ | 05/24/05 | Eric Pfeiffer

Posted on 05/24/2005 7:19:20 AM PDT by GWB00

If there’s one Republican I see a benefit for after the filibuster compromise, it is George Allen. Allen has spoken forcefully on the issue, and beat Frist to the punch in calling for a vote on filibusters sooner rather than later. Though Allen was not seen as one of the major players on this issue, he has also been an unusually strong advocate for confirming John Bolton without delay. There is a growing sentiment from Beltway Buzz readers and many in the conservative movement that Allen is showing more leadership qualities in the Senate than the actual Majority Leader.

Like Frist, voters will judge how Allen responds to the compromise and what moves he makes in ensuring confirmation for Bush’s future nominees. In the meantime, Allen has shown himself to possess the style of leadership most voters look for in their presidential nominees. It’s far too early to make broad proclamations, but never too early to note progress.

I really think this guy in going to be a contender in 2008. Senator Allen is not just one of those blue blood Senate types. He was the Governor of Virgina and ran the successful Senate Campaign that gained more seats for the GOP. Although, based on what happened last night this is becoming less significant. Nevertheless, the guy can articulate and deliver. A quality sorely lacking in the Senate and the GOP.

I like Allen a lot, he's my choice so far. With Condi for VP, how's that sound?

Allen has my full support and I'll work like the dickens for him. He's one of the few I'll work for.

The way things are looking now, Allen is the only guy that can get me back to the polls in 08.

Frist is looking more and more like his unlamented predecessor every day.

Allen is certainly the front runner. We will see how his conservative credentials hold up as we move foward.I believe Mike Pence would be a far better choice.

Allen had a cameo appearance as a Conferedate General in the movie 'Gods and Generals.' He will NEVER be able to run and/or win because of it; Democrats will play the clip over and over again and ask, "Do we need a racist confederate in the White House?"

I like Allen and his father was a good man. But, the Democrats will keep bringing up this 1 second cameo appearance.

Allen has been very vocal about Bolton and pretty aggressive on the judges. He is definitely grabbing the bull by the horns. And he acts more like a leader than Bill Stiff I mean Frist.

I believe that one of that movies backers was Ted Turner, one of the biggest frothing mouth democrats there is.

It will be a non-issue.

I also like the Allen-Condi ticket. I also would like a Allen-Dole (Libby) but just because I like her. She would bring the female vote out, she's an experienced DCer, but she is also representing another Southern state, so that might not help. I also like it they both stuck with the party that brung 'em, not like any of those 7 turncoats.

Senator Allen has 3 AM courage. Call at that hour for help and he'll be there in ten minutes. Try that with Harry Reid and see what happens.

I've liked Allen since the moment I became aware of him on the public scene. I can easily support him whole-heartedly.

He's a no-nonsense guy, a forthright speaker, and conservative enough for this arch-conservative (moi).

He's nice-looking, too. Va-voom!
