The caveat emperor

By Joan Vennochi, Globe Columnist

May 24, 2005

During an interview yesterday with Globe editorial writers and columnists, the former Democratic presidential nominee was asked if had signed Form SF 180, authorizing the Department of Defense to grant access to all his military records.

''I have signed it," Kerry said. Then, he added that his staff was ''still going through it" and ''very, very shortly, you will have a chance to see it." ........

After the interview, Kerry's communications director, David Wade, was asked to clarify when Kerry signed SF 180 and when public access would be granted. Kerry drifted over to join the conversation, immediately raising the confusion level. He did not answer the question of when he signed the form or when the entire record will be made public.

Several e-mails later, Wade conveyed the following information: On Friday, May 20, Kerry obtained a copy of Form 180 and signed it. ''The next step is to send it to the Navy, which will happen in the next few days. The Navy will then send out the records," e-mailed Wade......

The military keeps records... ALL records... even the ones that came BEFORE they were 'changed'.

IMHO... JFKerry will continue to avoid signing the document... until he has come up with an explanation for any 'abnormalities'.

Kerry is from the world of "if only", "I woulda if I coulda", and "technicalities". Can you imagine him in a crisis? Think he would have had to guts to visit Ground Zero like Bush did and take the mike from a guy in the trenches? Naugh......

You are just one impatient guy, Johnny boy!

Kerry has signed inumerable documents which cover those very areas in which you express concern. But you know, things get lost in the mail, office windows get left open in the rain, pets can damage documents in any number of ways, it may have been filed under "D," under "R," under "W," etc.etc.

Why even here in the hi-tech offices of

KKKTFUBARF

things get lost allatime! The document about which you enquire will be forthcoming soo. Very soon. You have the Senator's word on that!

I expect to see Kerry's signed 180 about the same time MA allows me to vote against gay-marriage... or get a tax-cut... or see an end to tolls...

I don't think he gets a chance to sanitize any records, which would explain why he signed it but didn't submit it.

One he signs it and submits it, then everyone can get it from the Navy source.

Not holding my breath.

Staff going through it, and very very very ???

Liberal speak, anytime they use very more than once, it's liberal double speak, and nothing about it is true. It's like they use the word to cancel itself out??

When I filled out my form 180, I could specify WHICH records to release. He does retain editorial control in that way.

Wow! Thx for the info. I didn't know that. I thought it was an all or nothing option. But the form itself would spell out what he choose not to release?

Absolutely. Don't expect to be seeing anything incriminating to be coming out.

This will be his 'nuanced' response.

IOW, When he gets it, and as soon as his staff has a chance to go through them and change them to line up with his story.

get ready - we will be looking for a good pic for this 'announcement'....

Lets not get carried away just yet, Kerry said:

''I have signed it," Kerry said. Then, he added that his staff was ''still going through it" and ''very, very shortly, you will have a chance to see it." ........

The bigger question remains, will we see ALL of it? My guess is no. But, since he has future aspirations as a Presidential candidate, he'd be wise to release all of the information, or there will be hell to pay from the blogosphere. Republicans better not rest until all pages and documents are released into the public domain.

Whoever in the US Senate that gave Hanoi Kerry a Top Secret Clearance HAS seen all his military records

Good point. Wonder who saw them and how much was the bribe?

Also, I read this elsewhere (no need to link as it was on a blog). "From the instructions on the SF-180, it looks like the only document normally released by this form is the DD-214. We've seen Kerry's whitewashed DD-214."

Either way, sounds about like we all suspected, eh? Buncha nothin'.
