THE MODERATES HAND THE PRESIDENT, AND REPUBLICAN CONSERVATIVES, A JUDICIAL WINDFALL.

BwHAhahahhahaah

They've been "Roved" again!!  Bush and Co. have apparently outmaneuver their political enemy once more, this time by using their own dull weaponry!!! With ego inflated squishy center-liners, 12 dimwit Senators managed to hand President Bush his future conservative Supreme Court without what was sure stacking up to be a protracted political bloodbath.

By allowing at least 7 ultra-conservative appellate nominees to be awarded the political equivalent of a get-outa-jail-free card, the moderates of both the Democrats and Republican's have agreed in no uncertain terms, that these chosen few, do not qualify as, "Extreme Circumstances" the familiar term that the opposition used to hold Bush's right-wing judicial picks to the fire.

This settlement agreement will warrant a free pass to these most qualified jurist and give them a favored spot to replace any retiring Supreme Court justice, and avoid a committee floor fight to get an up or down vote.

I am not quite sure these Senators meant to make these 7 eligible to serve on the Supreme Court without the dreaded filibuster.. but oops.. THEY DID!

NOT ONE PENNY!!!

I'm angry enough to pledge money to real conservatives who will run against these RINO's and replace them. How about $100.00 a head?

I encourage everyone to attack!

Dobson and a whole lot of Freepers would disagree with this take. Me? I'm as yet undecided.

Yep, I want to see how this plays out to see how good a deal it is too. It might be a pretty good deal. It might be much ado about nothing and we are back at the Constitutional option in a month.

Well Carlo, since you're cooking tonight, I'm going to let this pot simmer for a couple of days.

Today the Dems backed-down. I'm thinking they've seen the polls showing the American public is fed-up (more food) with their nonsense, but McCain (as usual)let's them save face with their constituency.

I'm concerned about Myers and Saad. I'll wait to see what Frist does next.

No no no. (A) We need role players in the GOP like Collins and Snowe and Chafee. The alternative is a Democrat who will vote for Reid for majority leader. No conservative Republican can win a statewide race in those states, at least not for the time being. We have to deal with that political reality. (B) Graham? DeWine? Look, sometimes these folks stray, but is our tent really so small that we can't accomodate guys like that? We have a majority in Congress and we have the presidency because we are willing to have disagreements in the party.

Sorry, but I disagree. Even if Justice Brown is nominated to take the place of whoever gets the Chief Justice's Chair there will still be a filibuster fight at her nomination. It does not matter what the 7 Democrats promised their base will NOT let the party allow any of those 3 (and I think Brown is the most likely to be nominated to the SCOTUS) to be nominated without a major fight. I would love to believe that we could get any of those people onto the SCOTUS without a filibuster fight, however I do not believe the democratic party base will allow that.

The Republicans not only shot themselves in the foot they drove a stake in the heart of the party. Congradulations Republicans, you are serving in the last majority Republican Senate. How does it feel? Hope you are all not enjoying those drinks you are having with Harry, Teddy and company.Sayonara.

It will take a real gamble on the part of the Demonuts to cry wolf so soon.. I believe they cut this deal to save a big fight for the SC appointment.. They have lost that battle if Bush appoints one or any of these approved nominees as his choice.. Ha!

These backstabbers can go to hell. I'll drink a toast to their demise. I'd vote for a democrate, before I'd vote for a back stabber.

Let them get their money frome the democrats, because they won't git it from me!!!!!!!

(I posted this on another thread, but let me run my this theory by you:)

It looks to me like the Republicans have come out on top in the PR war by shedding an image of frenzied "extremists" who want to nuke the Senate, etc. As far as I can tell, the Democrats gained nothing as far as PR goes. But there may be an even more important upside for the Republicans:

I am beginning to wonder if the rats got themselves caught in a very clever trap. If the rats arbitrarily claim "extraordinary circumstances" against a qualified nominee simply because that nominee is conservative, then all it takes is for TWO of the seven RINOs who signed onto this deal to jump up and cry "foul". The "outraged" Senators will say, "We thought we had a deal with the Democrats but they have broken their end of the bargain. They have stabbed us in the back, and we now have no choice but to exercise our Constitutional option to change the filibuster rule." This deal may actually offer the RINOs cover to "change their minds" when push finally comes to shove!

So even while most of Bush's best nominees get confirmed without a filibuster, the Republicans can keep their finger on the nuclear button the whole time! In essence, this "deal" has ensured that when the time comes to "go nuclear", the vote will be there in spades.

Game, set, match.
(Of course, I could be dreaming....)

Hey big boy good to see ya!.. I hear you.. but let us not forget that Campaign Finance Reform turned into a long-termed financial windfall for us against the DEms in the cash collecting last election..

This isn't any different.. don't be fooled by the initial hype.. this is a wolf like bonanza in squishy sheep's clothing

From all that I have read, this deal only moderately works in our favor IF the dems stick to the deal. Byrd is leading the dems.....nuf said!

Totally. Does anyone honestly think that this "gang" of seven would do anything that would benefit conservatives? Not likely.
