Democrats 'Going After Red States,' Dean Says - (claims DNC is "the morality&values party" - hunh?)

Message to the Republican base: Howard Dean, the new chairman of the Democratic National Committee, says he's coming after you.

In an interview on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday, Dean said Democrats are "reaching out all over the place, speaking to all kinds of people - and he specifically mentioned evangelicals and Catholics.

"I've been to 18 states. Of those, eight of them have been red states," Dean said. "We're trying to get our message out everywhere. We are going to go after the Republican -- what they think is the Republican base. We're going to go after red states. There are some of those states that we can win."

Dean said Democrats have some "pretty strong moral values" but he also admitted his party should do a better job of "standing up and fighting for them."

"Our moral values, in contradiction to the Republicans', is we don't think kids ought to go to bed hungry at night. Our moral values say that people who work hard all their lives ought to be able to retire with dignity. Our moral values say that we ought to have a strong, free public education system so that we can level the playing field. Our moral values say that what's going on in Indian country in this country right now in terms of health care and education is a disgrace, and for the president of the United States to cut back on health-care services all over America is wrong. Democrats have strong moral values," Dean said.

Dean called said the current tension between Republicans and Democrats "is a fight for the soul of America."

He said seven-month campaigns for the presidency are a thing of the past: "We're going to have four-year campaigns," he said. And he said to win, he said Democrats need to be everywhere:

"By the end of this year, we have a goal of having a Democrat in every precinct in America -- not every county, but every precinct in America." Dean also said the DNC plans to have four paid political organizers in every state before the year is over.

Asked about his recent mockery of Rush Limbaugh's addiction to painkillers, Dean said he won't tolerate hypocrisy. (At a Democrat gathering in Minnesota last month, Dean pretended he was snorting cocaine when Limbaugh's name came up.)

"It is galling to be lectured to about moral values by folks who have their own problems," Dean told NBC's Tim Russert on Sunday, after Russert asked him whether Dean, as a physician, should be mocking someone who has been treated for drug addiction.

"We get lectured by people all day long about moral values by people who have their own moral shortcomings," Dean said in reference to Limbaugh.

The Republican National Committee, in a statement on its website, said Dean's "unfocused performance" on Meet the Press "is emblematic of the larger problems facing the party he leads.

"Sadly, Chairman Dean and the Democrats on Capitol Hill have become singularly focused on obstructionism and negativity, which is why they have become the country's minority party," RNC Press Secretary, Tracey Schmitt said.

"While Dean and the Democrats launch disappointing personal attacks, Republicans under the President's leadership will continue to focus on providing meaningful solutions to the challenges facing the American people."

I would have put BARF ALERT on the tagline, but there wasn't enough room.

Man! I hope he succeeds! The red states are not blue BECAUSE of the Dem's message.

and he specifically mentioned evangelicals and Catholics.

Before we Catholics will even consider you, the pro-abort tilt has to go. I actually voted for a pro-life Dem (Poshard in Illinois), but Dean's approach is to convince us that these things don't count, or that window dressing like ethics boards will make us vote D.

It won't wash with B-XVI, and it won't wash with the faithful.

The 2004 election is barely behind us, and Dean is hard at work, to defeat Dems in 2006.

What are your moral shortcomings, Dr. Dean? Or are you, as a liberal, exempt from them?

I've never met a Republican who believes kids ought to go to bed hungry at night.

Indeed. Liberals are certainly in favor of the proper care and feeding of zoo animals who happen to vote. As to the state of their souls, however, liberals are indifferent, even hostile.

Well lets see what planks of their party platform I can agree on:

1) Guns are evil, Mr & Mrs America hand them over (nope)
2) Gays, Blacks, Hispanics, poor people deserve more rights than other people (nope)
3) The 1st Amendment prohibits religion through some bogus separation of church and state, it doesn't protect free exercise (nope)
4) Taxes, taxes, taxes. The government knows how to spend my money better than I do (nope)
5) Our troops are really the rampaging, bloodthirsty hordes of jenjis(sic) khan (nope)
6) We will take things away from you on behalf of the common good (nope)

Dean can dream on. He'd get more votes if he'd just shut up and do the primal scream at every media appearance.

"He must have gotten his degree in a box of Cracker Jacks."

That's very funny, kelly! Very clever remark. I approve! Thanks for the contribution to this thread!

How DARE this little rooster talk about the "shortcomings" of ANYBODY when in reality, he is not much more evolved than your average strutting little schoolyard bully - insensitive as a doorknob! The nerve!....after suggesting (purely for what he perceived to be his own political gain) that our president "knew about 9/11 in advance"........and shouting out in public that he "hates Republicans and everything they stand for!"

ZOT and DOUBLE ZOT on howlin' Howie Demented!

Frankly, I'm wondering how long he's going to last in the chairman's chair.

Char :)

The funny part is that people actually think that there's a political party that's really into the "morals" thing. Either way, it provides me with a chuckle.

Isn't it awesome the way we got one of Karl Rove's agents elected to the head of the DNC for the first time in history?

"I've been to 18 states. Of those, eight of them have been red states," Dean said. "We're trying to get our message out everywhere..." to all felons to vote for Hillary.

Earlier today I heard a (replay?) interview of Dean by Russert. There can be no doubt that Dean is mentally disordered - he has acute inverted cognition.

Is Dean Rx-ing himself? I think Dean is projecting his own med/drug use onto Rush Limbaugh. Dean protests too much and too irrationally. No one can deny that Dean speaks and acts as if he is out of self-control. Well, maybe he's the short term "party leader" designated to appeal to all the loonies thus guaranteeing that loyal voting bloc. I don't think the Democrat party members have to fear that the loonies will desert their party.
