And if so, what exactly did the RATS get out of this?

The Rats got two things out of it:

1. The PR victory-- make no mistake about that. We will be hearing about it every day for the next year, and so will the accursed "undecided" voters.

2.They are now secure in the knowledge that they can count on these six RINOs (who will be praised as "statesmen" for the next year at least) to do the same down the road, when we reach the next impasse, because of #1.

Those are two very, very large victories. And we're supposed to be happy about a measly THREE judges?

Frist ought to be spanked hard for not pushing the button last week. The Dems didn't have six turncoats last week. He waited too long. Somebody turned over the weekend.

And those six ought to go join Jim Jeffords, for all the good they're doing the Republican party.

One of the best-informed, Hugh Hewitt, is calling this a major cave-in. He's also saying no more dinero for pubbie general fund for Senate.

I am with him 100%, and will hang up on next call from these weasels.

"owes his election to Hillary ..."

That's a side issue. The reason not to trust him is that he's a Rat, and under the thumb of the chief Rat, Dirty Harry Reid.

"You can kiss Frist goodbye, too! I'm tired of gutless RINOS country club republicans. Might as well swear in Hillary. At least we know what we got!"

You got that wrong Pal. Frist tried to do the right thing. He's the hero in this nonsense. Its McCrazy and his RINO pals Graham and Dewine that stabbed us in the back. Graham was on TV smirking about how the base won't like it but he had to look out for the senate, blah, blah.

At best, this just extends this neverending nonsense. Blah, blah, will the Dems filibuster and will the RINO's support a filibuster?

At worst, it will prevent Bush from putting the right appointments on the bench.

Graham & DeWine will let the Dems do their dirty work of torpedoing the Bush appointees.

SOLUTION: Even if a Jusitice retires before 2005, don't nominate another Justice until 2006, when we have 58 or 59 or 60 Republican senators, some of whom would replace the RINO squishes. The republic will not fall apart if the Supreme Court case load gets reduced (in fact, it would likely benefit America.)

With an effectively fillibuster-proof majority (effective even if under 60, because there's still a couple moderate Dems) we can nominate who we want, as against President Bush nominating another Souter just because he's the only kind of character that can make it past the squishes.

I think the Republicans did not give up their rights, and that's what counts. Given a show of bad faith on the part of the 'Rats - and that has been their history - Frist can still present the nuclear option to the Senate at any time. The real game here is the Supreme Court - we all know that. We won't really know who won this game of Texas Hold 'em until the first Supreme appointment is submitted.

We've lost THE best time to pull the "nuclear option". If we try to do it on a white Conservative male, it will NEVER come off as anything other than partisanship.

We got an up or down vote on 3,THREE, out of ten. This is a "win"? Not where I come from.

We also got McQueeg acting as the Senate Majority Leader,WITHOUT PORTFOLIO and the semi-deification of Booby, GRAND KEAGLE, Bryd; as McLame kissed his ass.

I honestly believe the ticket will be Clinton/McCain. For which side is yet to be determined.

Well, s**t, I guess he's proven he's not much of a leader suited for the WH, then.

This isn't Frist fault ..

he didn't have the votes because of the 7 Republicans

OTOH [Ramesh Ponnuru]
Lindsey Graham seems to be under the impression (as of the last minute on CNN) that he retains the right to change the rules.

How can this possibly be a good deal?

I'm a "silver lining" type of guy, so I can't see how the Dems could filibuster the nomination of Judge Owens or Judge Brown to the Supreme Court when they passed the Senate with a plurality. Not even Raplh Neas could pull that one off.

It seems to me that the person who ought to be squalling about being stabbed in the back is.....Harry Reid, because he's about to make an absolute FOOL of himself on national TV with that goofy commercial of his.

This takes all the wind out of his sails...no small feat.

Exactly, they will forstall any confrontation with compromise...this is going to drag everything out to the point where it stretches the mind...at best there goes a third of any positive agenda or work from congress--Social Security, energy, the budget, oh..TAX CUTS, tort reform, immigration, etc.
