Announce Filibuster Compromise
Something just occurred to me...
What if Pryor, Owen and Brown actually do get confirmed? And then let's say on is eventually nominated and confirmed to the SCOTUS.
Given how we conservatives keep getting screwed they'd probably turn into an O'Conner.
Okay, I'm officially insane now. Please, someone put me out of my misery!
"Republican by day, Democrat by night."
Senator Lindsey Graham
And an *sshole ALL OF THE TIME...
For starters, Frist will have to compete against this;
I don't recall who posted that. It was somebody.
If you were in Frist's position how would you reign them in?
I'm going to bed, I still think we got the result we wanted tonight and we didn't have to take the media hit (yet) for changing the Rules. And the moderate Dems agreed that filibusters are not right. WIN-WIN.
We agreed to not stop the Dems from filibustering as long as they don't filibuster.
I just spent a few minutes on DU, they are apoplectic and are deserting the Dems in droves. It looks very familiar! What an eye-opening experience to see both opposite sides both so out of joint by the same news. Its as though a football game was played and both sets of fans are pissed at the end. I think we won, not a final victory yet, but a good move in the right direction.
Good night all.
I just don't agree. The Dems never promised to stop filibustering, except on three nominees. They will filibuster the rest, and Bush's first USSC nominee. Count on it.
The Republican Senate has failed us.
Because less than 50% of the country is ideologically conservative and there is no point in allowing the Democrats to be the permanent majority party.
Recess is scheduled for memorial weekend.
And, no, they aren't worthless. By a recess appointment Dubya flips a finger in their face, condemns their 14 member cabal to hell, then elects a couple of Senators in '06 that won't stab him in the back. It serves the purpose of neutering this cabal, except in cases of Supreme Nominee, on the Judicial issue. Then get the House to get them hell in any attempts to pass legislation. If it means nothing gets passed, so be it.
Vitriol is not a substitute for logic. You are also a congenital liar. I have never said I was stating a fact. It is a plausible and certainly a logical situation that the White House knew what these Senators are upto. Geez this was in the news only for the past couple of weeks. You are the perfect example of why Darwin was wrong. BTW, I have forgotten more about history and politics than you ever knew. Your posts are only as accurate as the President is conservative.
Clearly you are very confused.
Don't bet on it, Frist has shown all of the fortitude of a jelly fish. He is a gutless wonder who does not have the power to pursuade. Face it, when push came to shove, the republicans blinked and folded. They let the lies of the democRATS sway the masses and rule the day.
Dingy Harry said the truth, for a change.......THEY WON.
The Dems, who have called every single judicial nominee, this president has sent them, EXTREME, are not, not, NOT going to stop filibustering.
All "we" got was an up or down vote on three, THREE, nominees. That's it.
Would you care to tell me why you think that KKK BYRD is a " moderate" ?
The so-called nuclear option was and IS necessary and it's nows off the table for the NEXT TWO YEARS.
They all belong in a crypt.
I sent a $20 to his campaign. Brinkman's a current state representative who's won three terms, so he can win.
This is a ploy by Spector to appear to look conservative. He would have never voted in favor of the nuclear action. Now he can appear to act conservative.
What's more, if Bob Dole's advice had been followed, most of the tax increases that were enacted during the 1980s would have been offset by commensurate cuts in "entitlement" programs.
I could end up being represented by TWO DeWines! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
There are two ways to zap that bugger. One is a head on attack of the rule, likely tried in January of odd-numbered years, at the start of a Congress.
The other way requires a dysfunctional group of Senators who refuse to vote. Once they agree to vote, the issue evaporates. The good guys "lost the opportunity" because the DEMs decided to vote.
And the DEMs didn't promise not be silly on another nominee. We'll probably get to have this fun again sometime soon. Bolton and Myers are on the Executive Calendar.
You are just wrong on that count,
Part II: Commitments for Future Nominations
A. Future Nominations. Signatories will exercise their responsibilities under the Advice and Consent Clause of the United States Constitution in good faith. Nominees should only be filibustered under extraordinary circumstances, and each signatory must use his or her own discretion and judgment in determining whether such circumstances exist.
