That's the gist of a recent survey of college-educated men and women in Egypt, Morocco and Indonesia.
Anti-American feelings are widespread in the Muslim world and extend to U.S. consumer brands, according to a report released Wednesday. It suggested the U.S. burnish its image with a change in tone and by publicizing aid programs.
But as blogger Mike A. at Probably Correct, who pointed me to the survey, observes, that's "[j]ust exactly opposite [of] what the UN told the US last December, when we rushed to the aid of tsunami survivors and were criticized by the UN for not giving them sufficient credit..." Exactly. Damned if you do...
More survey results:
Many young Muslims said they admired Osama bin Laden, while views of President Bush were uniformly negative. All focus group members rejected U.S. views of the war in Iraq, saying the United States invaded on a false premise to further its own regional goals.
And this:
When asked specifically what the United States should do, very few in Cairo, Jakarta, or Casablanca called for U.S. withdrawal from the Muslim world. The angriestmostly men and Egyptianswanted to tell President Bush, Leave us alone, but not many took this position. Despite the rhetorical support for American withdrawal from the Muslim world earlier in the conversations, almost none actually endorsed the idea later when they were asked what actions President Bush should take regarding their countries. The bottom line for most was the combination of American aid with respect for their autonomy. A young Moroccan woman summed up their views: Dear President Bush: We really need financial aid, but you should not get involved in everything.
Translation: We hate you. Now give us more money.
But we'll still hate you.

Paint a $ sign on a Daisy Cutter and give it to them.
My ex-wife.
Ship 'em "middle finger" Pepsi.
Yeah...just like the UN....
You owe me, because you have it and I want it, make sure it's cash, but don't even think about telling me how I may or may not spend it!
I'm entitled to it!
See? That's was easy!
We hate you and will nuke you at the first opportunity. There is no way to put the genie back in the bottle with these fanatics, no way on earth to make them 'like' us. But they should be made to fear and respect us. So the real question is....what do we do when they attack us again, harder, with nukes or biological weapons? Turn the other cheek? That will merely encourage them to behead, maim, and mutilate more Americans and more Christians and Jews. Positive reinforcement, etc.. They'll think Mohammed is leading the charge.
This is exactly why North Korean wants unilateral talks with the US and exactly why we will only engage in bilateral talks.
Seems they learned a lesson from the lefty political hacks in this country.
Seems a bit harsh to me.
After all, their position doesn't sound any different from the DNC.
In fact, they sound a whole lot more rational than Howard Dean.
Egypt is the second-largest recipient of American foreign aid (thanks to Dhimmi Carter) after Israel. It totals $2.2 BILLION per year.
LOL! Headline reminded me of a Discover card letter I received once....
Same here.
I consider myself a rational guy 95% of the time.
But I think I'd make John Bolton look tame in comparison if I were in a position of having to deal with countries like this.
Until we find, and field, a viable substitute for oil-based energy, we are doomed to tolerate these @$$holes. As soon as we find, and field, a viable substitute, we can kiss off the entire mid-east. And, just as a bonus, we can kiss off the idiots in Venezuela, Mexico, west Africa, etc, etc.
We did the Manhattan Project. We can do this. All we need is the political will.
