Radio Jock Holds Abortion 'Contest'
Catholic.org ^ | May 22, 2005 | Matt Abbott

From Anne Newman of Operation Outcry:
Silent No More (www.operationoutcry.org):

"Earlier this week [of May 15, 2005], shock jock Elliot Segal of Washington, DC's radio station DC101 decided it would be hilarious to hold a contest with a prize for the listener who had the most abortions. While this contest was disgusting by its very nature, the offense was compounded because he held the competition on public airwaves during early morning hours, when people are driving to work and bringing their children to school. The 'contest' featured at least one potential statutory rape, two medical assaults and a number of callers proud of the children they had aborted.

"One caller, identified as K-Dog, proudly asserted that he was responsible for 16 abortions between two different women. K-Dog's second wife called in to proudly verify the 5 abortions she had with him. Graphic descriptions and crude jokes were included. Such depravity has no place on public airwaves.

"DC101's parent company, Clear Channel Communications, won applause last year when it dropped Howard Stern because he was deemed too offensive and controversial. It appears this brief dance with decency was merely a publicity stunt, as Stern alleged at the time.

"Please contact Clear Channel and ask them to send a message by firing this schlock jock."

I believe the Greaseman is back on in the DC area. Try 700 AM in the morning drive-time.

Margaret Sanger would be proud.

Fire him? Heck no...promote him! He's a perfect pitchman for RATS like Howie Dean! The more we tie Dims to looney tunes like this, the more voters we win on our side.

This is offensive beyond belief.

Doug Tracht (aka the Greaseman) lost his job and, as far as I know, his career as a broadcaster, because he said something equally offensive.

I'm no Stern fan, but I do believe when he ran for governor, he proposed filling the potholes with the ashes of executed criminals from death row. Not fetuses.

Stern does, however, campaign against pro-life candidates. After all, promoting responsible sex is not on his agenda, fer sure.

Is this guy nationally syndicated, or is it local?

He definitely proposed both.

He is EXTREMELY pro abortion and says so just about every day.

If true, these people are not only immoral, they are morons.

Hmm I don't equate having dumb listeners call in about abortions to giving the Okay to drag black people behind trucks.

There is a huge difference between using other people's stupidity for "laughs" and making racist comments.

For all your headline readers there was no contest. Not even Clear channel would sanction a contest to the person who got the most abortions in X amount of time. If he gave anything out it was probably a t-shirt. Which, as anyone who listens to the show for more then 5 minutes would know, he gives out to anyone who asks for it. I thought it was a distasteful piece, and he could have found other things to do besides laugh at the stupidly of K-dog and the others.

This garbage is why I refuse to sign up for Sirius or Xbot satellite radio. These creeps get bounced from the public airwaves and then Sirius offers them a big contract, like with Howard Stern. Somewhere in the future, Sirius will have to raise subscriber rates to cover the big payoff to Stern.

Not only that but get this for a stat about the District of Columbia: 1 in 20 citizens of DC is infected with HIV. That, according to the Department of Health & Human Services.

You say to-mah-to, and I say to-may-to.

Incidentally, I don;t recall the Greaseman ever "giving the Okay" to drag Black people (or anyone else for that matter) behind trucks.

Then they overshot the mark! I believe Howard Stern (odd as it sounds) is pro-life.

Oh no he's not. Back in 2000 (before he realized that he could get more attention by playing the anti-Bush card), he spent a lot of time agonizing on the air over whether he should vote for Bush or Gore. He agreed with Bush on practically everything except for one issue: abortion. But that one issue was so important to him (because he had a major psychological hangup about it, worrying constantly that one of his daughters would be raped and then forced to have the baby) that he couldn't stop thinking about pulling the lever for Gore.

I heard the Greaseman after DC101 fired him and he got syndicated afternoons on WJFK for a while. His steroid-boosted super-macho-virile act had gotten old and tired by then. I actually turned him off to start listening to Stern on WJFK in, jeez, 1988 or '89 when I still lived in Herndon.
