UMM QASR, Iraq - (KRT) - The weight of a fuel truck collapsed the roof of an escape tunnel being dug out of Camp Bucca, where more than 6,000 suspected terrorists and insurgents are being held.
Prison authorities said Sunday the shaft was discovered Thursday when one of the truck's tires plunged into the earth between the two main fences on the camp's perimeter.
No one escaped. A small number of ringleaders involved in the attempt were placed in isolation, authorities said.
The 300-foot burrow, about wide enough for a man to crawl through, was four feet underground and poorly constructed, said Capt. Jerry Baird Jr. of Nebo, N.C., part of the HHC 105 MP Battalion of the North Carolina Army National Guard from Asheville.

Time to start doing a couple of laps around the camp in an Abrams every day, imho. There probably are or will be other tunnels.
No doubt, plus there are probably people on the outside helping them tunnel as well. Look at all the tunnels the Israelis have found in Gaza as means of shipping guns into Palestine from Egypt.
That's what happens when terrorists try to build a structure instead of blow one up.
Perfect idea. This is the third or forth effort at this prison camp. There have been others too.
If I remember correctly, the Abrams doesn't have the ground pressure that a heavy fuel tanker does because the wide tracks distribute the weight too well.
Perhaps we really should "race the truck" instead.
It's not politically correct, but a grease pit around the periphery would be in order. Of course, bacon grease only! :)
good idea!
(I hate it when thay happens. Got a link?)
In the rest of the story it says they use infared ( i guess at night outside the fence) and tractors to dig but 6000 plus scumbags with nothing to do...
Not so sure, a full load of fuel doing a couple of laps every day would be a juicy target. Maybe just a single axle dump truck full of sand.
The Great Escape
Quite possibly the best movie ever made!!! I'll never get back to sleep now because I'll be whistling that tune!
I was thinking of using a water tanker myself, seeing as how water is nonflammable...

I'll go along with that! Have it on DVD. Love the part when the 3 Americans (featuring the late great Steve McQueen) were making potato moonshine in honor of Independence Day.
"Wow!" (in a choking, gasping, coughing voice)
Heavier than fuel, too!
Long way around it, but I have (at best) 31200 dial-up and I've learned it is the only way about 1/2 the time.
A UN investigation has revealed that the US is responsible for these dangerous tunnels since we have not provided prisoners with a reasonable number of beams to shore them up and bring them up to OSHA standards.
