ATLANTA (AP) - Representatives of the nation's top psychiatric group approved a statement Sunday urging legal recognition of gay marriage. If approved by the association's directors in July, the measure would make the American Psychiatric Association the first major medical group to take such a stance.
The statement supports same-sex marriage "in the interest of maintaining and promoting mental health."
It follows a similar measure by the American Psychological Association last year, little more than three decades after that group removed homosexuality from its list of mental disorders.
The psychiatric association's statement, approved by voice vote on the first day of its weeklong annual meeting in Atlanta, cites the "positive influence of a stable, adult partnership on the health of all family members."
The resolution recognizes "that gay men and lesbians are full human beings who should be afforded the same human and civil rights," said Margery Sved, a Raleigh, N.C., psychiatrist and member of the assembly's committee on gay and lesbian issues.
The document clarifies that the association is addressing same-sex civil marriage, not religious marriages. It takes no position on any religion's views on marriage.
Massachusetts is the only state that allows same-sex marriage. Eighteen states have passed constitutional amendments outlawing same-sex marriage.

When people go to see a psychiatric doctor, they pretend they can diagnose a patient, but it is all guesswork, smoke, and mirrors. They prescribe cocktails of drugs, wave some chicken bones around the patient, and serve them with a hefty bill (I have seen this happen to friends and relatives time and time again).
When the lead psychiatric association then comes out and orders the public to endorse depravity as "healthy", you know they are nothing but charlatans and vermin.
The story of how this organization was blackmailed into that action explains a lot about how the left operates.

As a Family Physician I have little to no use for the psychiatric profession. The severely mentally ill can be helped somewhat such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorders but for most other "conditions" it is useless to harmful. The big problem is most psychiatrists do not want to treat the truely mentally ill
And just 30 years ago, this same group was calling homosexuality a mental disorder.
I think they had it right the first time.
A psychiatrist's dream patient is a wealthy neurotic who is well behaved in session, but will never, ever be "healed." That way, the bills can keep being sent.
And, to a lesser degree, some of the anxiety disorders respond fairly well to pharmacotherapy.

Well isn't this interesting? It amounts to an admission by the APA that they believe homosexuality really is a mental disorder. And the cure is to let them run with it so as to not further injure their self esteem.
Next I guess they will be tell their suicidal patients there's no problem.

This is like saying since I can't fix it, it must not be broke.
Yes, but in reality the group simply has too much homosexual representation on their advocacy board, hence advocacy for homosexual causes. The advocacy would be even higher for other democratic agenda items inasmuchas the democratic party is the party that funds and supports social workers and the rest of the mental health disability extablishment.
