Forgive, forget? Hillary, Newt gain - (strange bedfellows indeed! what's up with this?)

Forget the Newt-orchestrated House vote for Bill Clinton's impeachment. This is a new millennium, baby, and the conservative Fire Dragon is lying down with the liberal Ice Queen. Figuratively speaking, of course.

All this chummy talk of bipartisanship between former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Sen. Hillary Clinton makes one wonder: An unholy alliance or a political marriage of convenience?

The two had their lovey-dovey photo-op last week to promote health information technology. Gingrich has written a book that delves partly into the issue. Clinton, whom Gingrich tarred when she sought to reform the health-care system, knows plenty about the subject, too. At the time, Gingrich called the Clintons "countercultural McGovernicks."

All is forgiven, though. Now both agree that mistakes in medical paperwork kill thousands of hospital patients each year. So they're backing a bill by Rep. Patrick Kennedy that would encourage digital-record-keeping over paper records.

Save lives and money. It's a politician's dream.

It doesn't hurt for Hillary to be seen as striking a middle ground with an ultra-conservative like Newt on a life-and-death issue. Not when the liberal wing of her party hopes she'll run for president in 2008.

So does the GOP, for that matter. The "vast right-wing conspiracy," as Hillary once called it with Newt at its center, has all its machinery in place to take her on.

I certainly hope the GOP is all geared up to take on this wolverine......already! This country can not possibly afford one more Clinton sleep-over in OUR White House, let alone 4 to 8 years. This arkancide duo did so much damage while they occupied a co-presidency, that it will take America another decade to attempt to undo it.

...at some point Newt is going to realize that he put to bed ANY presidential hopes the moment he got on stage with Hillary. At that point, I'd expect him to check into a mental clinic to be treated for depression.

McCain is going to find out the same thing, once he votes (or connives) against the mainstream Republicans in the Senate.

With those two gone, maybe we can get serious and start looking at Frist (assuming he pulls this off), or George Allen, or any of a number of normal Republicans.

Both Newt and Hillary have been sucking on the taxpayer tit in on way or another they don't have a clue how the real world works.

I wonder what the founders would think of today's "representatives" that are in politics for so long they become known as Newt or Hillary and don't even need last names anymore.

It's called the FBI files. I wonder what Newt does not want told to the press?

"It's called the FBI files. I wonder what Newt does not want told to the press?"

Who cares - Newt is now toast - and he has no one to blame but himself.

Anyway, if they had dirt on him from the FBI files, and were extorting him, he could go public and put Hillary in jail - and then coast to the presidency. I don't think that was it. I think it was this sick "get along" mentality.

...looking into reducing skyrocketing health-care costs and the paperwork that consumes government-financed Medicaid and Medicare.

I just don't get it...we need ANOTHER law to tell the medical profession how to shuffle papers??? Have I got it right???

Newt and/or hilly...forget aawbout it.

I'd never want my name and hers in the same sentence with bedfellows?

Hmmm. Maybe Newts up to something here. He starts working with her and then just after she clinches the Dem primary he cuts loose with the lurid tales of how she just sexually assaulted him and killed his cat.

Thats about the only way Newt will ever get back into my "good guy" column again. Which is to bad because up till this he was a lifer in the good guy column.

Waste of time and energy. The only candidate who's going to be able to take Hillary will be Condi.

"The only candidate who's going to be able to take Hillary will be Condi."

If we were a sports team, you could say that we have a very shallow bench.

I don't see anybody BUT CONDI!....and the trouble with that is that she hasn't ever run for any office, and she's a wonderfully capable executive type, but somehow, I can't see her as President of the United States. I'll have to adjust my inner vision, because OF COURSE, I would back her totally and would work very hard to elect her. But it's hard for me to visualize Condoleeza Rice out there on the rubber chicken & peas campaign trail, sweating it out with the handshaking stump speaking, grueling grind that we just saw both candidates go through.

Condi seems too elegant and poised for such rough wear and tear political calesthenics!

Thanks for your excellent, focused comments.

Char :)
