Pepsico flipped off due to middle finger

Rush Limbaugh sounds off on controversy as many urge boycotts, firing of president

An apology by PepsiCo's president who likened the United States to a middle finger is apparently doing little to calm outrage caused by her remarks.

In the wake of WorldNetDaily's coverage of Indra Nooyi's commencement speech to graduates at Columbia Business School in which she compared the U.S. to the middle finger with both positive and negative connotations, consumers are vowing to boycott the company, and the topic is being widely discussed on talk radio.

Here is the shortcut to a blog that has a history of the facts. You need to scroll down until you see the date 5.18.2005

It seems Pepsico refuses to distribute copies of the speech. "PepsiCo says that it doesn't want to distribute the speech for fear that it will be quoted out of context." Whether that is true I do not know.

Since I am a shareholder I will give you the Tel Number.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Pepsi owns Taco Bell, KFC, and maybe one or two other fast food chains as a means of peddling their soft drinks.

"They used to sell sugar-free raspberry syrup specifically for mixing in colas"

They still sell sugar free raspberry syrup ... check in the coffee isle, with all the coffee syrups. Or go to www.davincigourmet.com

This was a (I've said it a jillion times and will say again) JUVENILE move on "Ms. Pepsi's" part. Any 16 year old girl in the pubskewl where I went, would have made a classier speech than she did. If Pepsi really wants to drag a piece of Americana into the gutter, well it will have to do so without our enablement to prolong the throes.

What about the Americans who smother their beef with ketchup?

Her fundamental message is that the power, wealth, and importance of the United States can be used as a force for either good or evil and that it is up to us to determine which it will be.

For cornsakes, this was not supposed to be a political science oriented address. It was supposed to be a business oriented address. Did Ms. Annoying fear that by supposed US "aggression" (such as in Iraq) the market for Pepsi and other American brands would suffer? That's the only possible approach to a reason for a statement like this, and even so she could have left out the throw-a-rod juvenile imagery (which I think drove her choice of hand analogy, and I can't blame Pepsico for not releasing an official copy because I think Africa would be rather peeved to be compared to her pinky finger). I think she should do some estimates for Pepsico business in Iraq in the coming years, assuming Dubya does not back down or we don't get a Rat in 08 who will abandon the ship. It ought to look rather rosy compared to the Saddam years.

No argument there from me. I think how she chose to say what she said was stupid and ham-handed. I understand the point she was making, though, and she is not wrong. She just chose a particularly brain-dead way to go about getting it across.

The real question for us, though, is this: Is her lack of facility with idealogical expression worth all this energy being expended on taking offense (see Axhandle's earlier post)? Is it worth contributing to an ever-growing structure of right-wing PC and thought policing? My answer is no and I will now proceed to move along as if the woman never existed. The rest of you are welcome to stew in righteous (and completely ineffectual) indignation.

When Pepsico gets snowed with emails from outraged converts to the rival brand or private brands, that is scarcely in vain. They do count these things, even though they reply now with Ms. Annoying's non-apologetic apology. Phone calls and letters would be even better, and hand written letters the most effective.

You just don't come off like a JUVENILE Rat political pontificator to an America which is mostly a Red Zone, and get away with it scot free. Not if you want to be considered an integral and loyal part of Americana any more. What could she POSSIBLY have been alluding to except the supposed snub of America to world sensibilities by its jumping on Saddam LIKE THE UN ITSELF SAID SHOULD HAPPEN?

<< ... what's STILL needed is comprehension.

You're right. So read what she said instead of what Rush Limbaugh ..... >>

1. What's a "Lush Rimbaugh?"

2. Although her language is unambiguous, posts number 35 and 37 above precisely summarise what she said and;

3. So far the score here, late into the fourth quarter is:

'Comprehenders' 99: 'Assorted axhandles and Steves' Zip!

Some stupid broad ineffectively uses a bad analogy to make a useless and unclear point

Useless (except for destructive power) yes, unclear NO -- not if you look at the political undertones. Ms. Annoying Pepsi is being just a little more genteel version of the screaming American antiwar liberal. These business grads will be getting out there, many making fortunes, and all too often wielding a political influence in proportion to their moneys rather than to their wisdom. When propelled by Rat causes, they undercut America a little less than Hanoi Jane, true, but they do undercut America.

all of those things you mentioned deserve our attention and concern, including pathetic types like Ms. Nooyi
we have not ignored these issues--why should we give Ms. Nooyi a pass?
her outrageous comments do not get reported by the press, soooo, let the people, us, do the reporting and reacting--that is a good thing!
just because it is a 'lesser' offense does not mean it should go without notice or retribution

I'll give up Gatoraide instead.
