Check your figures. Hillary actually beat Loozio by about 12 points.
2000 Senate Race Hillary Clinton 55.27%
Rick Lazio: 43%
Other: 1.73%
Hmmm...let me see...uh...no.
Vote republican, yes, if Hillary were on the ticket.
You illustrate a good point when people compare previous elections. The fact is that many of those blue collar conservative Democrats around in the '80's are gone. They've been replaced by their hippie children. That is why it is unlikely to see sweeps of states as with Reagan and Nixon any longer. The '70's generation replaced their parents and unless their children replace THEM, it looks to stay the same for awhile.
They'd pull the lever for the Devil first.
Manhattan Republican here (guess not a "real" Republican, but have not voted for a Democrat in 12 years in any election). No way this place goes Red. I depressingly noted that I was one of 16% of the Manhattan population that voted for Bush last November. Bloomberg (definitely not a real Republican) will likely lose to a Bronx Hispanic candidate in the next mayoral election, and we'll be annexed by France soon after. Au revoir!
Upstate had a number of red counties. We aren't really blue in central new york except in college towns and cities. The rest of us have good sense.
The biggest problem will be winning any Bush states for Hillary. Don't get me wrong because any democrat is formidable with their national vote fraud machine.
Two chances....Slim and None; and Slim's HIV positive.
The last neighborhood I lived in in Brooklyn at least had a Republican State Senator (Marty Golden) and was in Vito Fossella's district. The rest of Brooklyn, like Manhattan, is only red in the sense of the October Revolution.
This just in: Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein ahead of George Bush in the most recent Marist College poll of 1899 registered New York City voters.
The New York that went for Reagan is gone, just like California. And we lost both states for the same reason, uncontrolled third world immigration that is largely poor, votes for government handouts, and provides the margin of victory for socialist politicians.
Since 1980, the white population of New York (Broke 50-49 for Bush) dropped by over a million. The legal Hispanic population (went Kerry 3:1) increased by 75%. The black population (Kerry 10:1) increased over 25%.
